Quick canvass of opinion tipping fencers
Hi, does the forum feel that fencers are a trade in the tipping category? Couple of guys 'appear' (in my limited knowledge of the art) to be doing a decent job, quoted to leave themselves a pretty low margin (I costed the supplies myself) and the ground has been a bit harder going than I suspect they expected. 9 panels,…

Duropal worktops
I've seen some Duropal worktops. Does anyone have these, and if so how long have you had them, and how easy are they to keep clean? I've looked at some of the quartz stone ones that seem to have a glossy surface with a matt finish on the raised parts. As they are not flat, I'm wondering how practical they are for cleaning.

Hi all Now the warm weather has arrived we switched the heating off so only hot water would be called but unfortunately the radiators still got hot. i need an adaptor to use car vac cleaner in house?
We keep a lot of books in our front room. Recently builders have been extensively renovating the old house opposite and there is a lot of dusting flying about and our bookshelves are getting very dusty. The brush extension on the hoover wand is rather unwieldy and a feather duster just spreads it around. I do have a natty…

Help with front step tiling
I plan to get someone tile the step... It's the only tiling we need done in the house and I'd say not worth buying the tools to DIY. But I'd like to prepare the step as best as I can. Can anyone help? Should i just strip off all the tiles and leave it bare? Or shutter and concrete? The front row of tiles under the tar, can…

Yes that's right. I've just bought a 2 bedroom ground floor flat. It is in fact , an old house converted into 4 flats. The seller had it moved from the kitchen for some reason . Strip of land between 2 new housing developments
Hi all, Just bought my first home and am loving it so far. There is a strip of land behind my garden which I think could be a protected hedgerow. It is about 3m wide by 25m long. It is sandwiched between my fence and the house on the opposite sides fence although it is fenced on all 4 sides by different peoples gardens. My…

Grrr.Combi boiler in new house.
Just bought a new house. Combi has been in since 2015 and replaced a traditional gas boiler with hot water tank in cupboard in one of the bedrooms. The vendors provided the Gas safe register document for the installation and a British Gas safety check and "yearly service" dated about 2 weeks before we completed. We've…

How can I tell if my plaster is dry?
Sorry for the daft question, I'm a complete novice when it comes to home improvement :rotfl: I've had a wood burner installed over a week ago and most of the plaster has dried and successfully been repainted. There's this one spot though that was going lighter and lighter in colour but it hasn't changed now for a couple of…

Damp caused by drying plaster
Hello All, I'm in the process of buying my first house (3 bed mid Victorian terrace) and recently had a RISCS level two survey completed. The survey reported that there is damp in the walls of the ground floor and within the chimney stack in the roof space that required urgent attention (score 3). I asked the estate agent…
