New windows & condensation
Last year we had new double glazing fitted to all our windows. The work was done by a local builder (not a specialist window company) I know he has done plenty of windows before and has done loads of work for us with no problems. Ok, we didn't pay a fortune so I don't suppose we got top quality windows and yes you get what…

kitchen extension - heating
Hi, about to build a kitchen extension with bi-fold doors and large roof lantern. Obviously concerned with the area of glass that we need to minimise heat loss. We won't be skimping on insulation and will get maximum insulation in the walls and the best u-value doors and lantern. My question is though, theres only really…

Cavity wall insulation
We've recently had someone trying to sell us cavity wall insulation and in principle we would like to make the house a bit more energy efficient. The problem is I've heard about potential problems with damp and also damage to wall ties as a result of moisture being trapped in the cavity. Has anyone here had experience of…

Drilling holes into outside wall
I would like to drill some holes into an outside wall to hang a number plate up. Is it best to drill into the brick or cement (in between?) I keep reading conflicting comments online. THe instructions I got with the plate say to drill into the brick. It's a small slate plate so not very heavy. Thanks.

Cooker Hood Fan Stopped
Hello, I have a Baumatic F100.S22 Cooker Hood whose fan has stopped working. I own a three bed semi which has been let out for 10 years. I use British Gas boiler cover for maintenance and gas safety checks on the Ocean Alpha 240p combi boiler. Best way to budget a two story extension?
We are in the process of looking for our forever home, however, a house the size we want would only be affordable in an area we wouldn't want to live in, so we've decided to look at something smaller than we'd like but with potential to extend. So...we've seen a house we like, garden is superb (and plenty of it), and the…

Self build grants?
I am looking at doing a self build home. I have found a plot of land, and a good builder, but budget is obviously an issue. I understand that the government is quite keen of selfbuilders at the moment, so does anyone know whether there are any grants available (and where to find info)? Thank you :)

I want to install some simple track lighting and have been looking online. Does anyone know if there are types of standard track in the UK, so you can add more lights to them later?
