Guard rail for kitchen shelf?
I have floating shelves in my kitchen, so quite thick depth, and really need some ideas as to how to get some kind of guard rail to fit along one of them. One of my cats ( special needs! ) climbs on the shelf and deliberately bats things off it....I came home once again last night to smashed glass and china all over the…

Black stuff round window frames
We have uPVC window frames and they've been in for over 13 years with no trouble. Now, in the bedroom and bathroom, we have small patches of black stuff which is quite hard. It doesn't easily rub away or wash off and is not 'fungus' like so I wondered what it was, and how to get rid of it.

Has anyone used Redhill Appliances?
They have good prices online but when it comes to actual delivery dates are a bit vague. Supposed to be 7-10 days after placing an order. I'm unable to pin anyone down as to when my stuff will arrive in their warehouse, let alone be delivered to my home. Has anyone else had a problem or am I just unlucky?

Buying a house with a lot of work needed - Help!
Our house purchase seems to be going along well, we may even complete before Christmas. Luckily we are in a rented house at the moment, so don't need to move in until all the work is done. That's why I've started this thread, because this house needs quite a bit of work, and we have never done anything like this in the…

New boiler or repair?
Hello, We have a nearly 20 year old Apollo 50s boiler which now requires a new flue - the parts are expensive and our gasfitter estimates the cost at £360-£470 depending on which fule extension he needs to use. Painting stained doors
So I have been dreading sanding down the awful gloss paint work in our house. It looks like who ever did it just chucked a pot of paint at the door. The good news. I discovered that the paint peels of in giant sheets using no heat or chemicals as it hasn't been primed before painting! What I am left with is a very old…

Newish woodburner - flue sealant is cracking off
Hi all I wondered if anyone might be able to help. We had a new woodburner installed 3 months ago, but we've noticed the cementy type sealant around the flue pipe has cracked and is coming off. Presumably because we let the fire get too hot. Can anyone recommend something to reapply to the flue? TIA Mel

All radiators hot
This is prob a bit of a wierd one, but I'm somewhat concerned about elevated energy bills with this one. We have (like many) recently had to put on our heating. The odd thing is that all radiators seem to be on full, or at least hotter than would be expected no matter what I set each of the individual radiator valves at.…

Skirting boards advice (Decorating)
Hi guys, I'm in 2 minds wether to strip all my skirting boards down from white and varnish them. I am unsure wether it would be cheaper to just buy new skirting boards, as to strip them down i'd need a heat gun and lots of sand paper. Anyone have an idea how much it would be for a 4x4m room for skirting boards. Thanks Joe

I have hot water but no central heating
Hi guys, I have a year old boiler and at the moment I have hot water for a bath but the radiators will not come on. The boiler itself displays the letter C which in the instruction manual says: A request for central heating was made but the boiler has reached the desired temperature. I noticed the pressure on the system…
