Moving a hot water tank
Hi I am getting a new regular central heating system installed tomorrow which will replace the exisiting 1960 system. The question I have is can you put the hot water tank in a different location as it will be a new install (new tanks in the loft, radiators etc) At the moment the hot water tank is in an airing cupboard in…

New shower hose required for MFI bath
I have a bathroom suite, purchased from MFI a number of years ago. The chrome shower hose ,which runs from the central taps underneath the bath to a hole where it emerges outside the bath and connects to the shower head and sits back in the hole, has developed a leak. I am not aware of this myself, but I have gleaned from…

Replacements for Kitchen Spotlights?
I have a kitchen track light fitting which takes 6 x R63 60W ES spotlights. For a year or two I have been using Sylvania halogen 50W bulbs; good brightness, but not very energy saving, and disappointing life-they run very hot and rarely seem to last more than about 3-4 months. A few months back I switched to Megaman 11W…

Are single room extensions always cold.
Hi I am looking into having a single storey extension at the back of the house. It will have three exposed walls. I know a few people who have done what i want but both times i visited the rooms were very cold. Is this a problem with extensions of this type, is there anything you can do ie extra insulation.

How much (£) to re-site a bathroom?
Only looking for a ball park guide as I realise it's as long as a bit of string dependant on things like sewer proximity... Basically, we've seen a house we want to buy, where the existing (pokey) bathroom is front centre of the house. We'd want to move it to a bedroom on the front corner of the property which sits roughly…

Buying kitchens the cheap way
Any tips, basically? Been to Homebase to look at their '50% off' kitchen sale, with an extra 15% off via voucher and got a quote drawn up. But then came home and started comparing prices for individual aspects online at places like Screw Fix (where the prices aren't claiming any sort of sale) and things are looking…

Insulation grants?
Hi all. I'd like to know if my 86 year old nan is entitled to free cavity wall insulation from anywhere. She lives on her own in a 3 bedroom detached house and has had her heating on day and night throughout most of the winter due to lack of insulation. She does not claim any benefits and her gas supplier is British Gas. I…

Condensation in conservatory
Hi there everyone My conservatory is about 8 years old, but have noticed a lot of condensation on the laminate floor. Walls seem to be dry. It is heated by a oil filled radiator, which is turned off at night. Don't understand why it's a problem this year, and not before? Could the ventilation in the roof be an issue, or…

B&Q anti-customer policy
Just went to buy some emergency repair glue and clouts for the shed roof felt at B&Q, due the damage caused by todays heavy wind. The staff warned me not to return to buy a roll of felt, that I might have needed, as I would be charged £80, for merely returning within 4 hours! Luckily Wickes is close by.

We are contemplating whether its going to be cheaper to move, or do an extention on our house.. Rather than get a builder in and wait ages for a quote, just wondered if anyone had a rough idea how much a 20ft x 5ft extention off of the back of our house full brick with french doors one side and a window in the other.. Many…

Wood Flooring - how to level a floor?
Hi, a quick question for those in the know. We're hoping to put wood flooring down but we're aware that the concrete floor isn't level in places. The problem appears to be at the thresholds where rooms join (e.g. bedroom into hallway). Is there a cheap and simple way to level a concrete floor?

EON left boiler in dangerous condition
Hi I'm not sure this is the right place to post this but I'm after some advice about how to proceed with a complaint to Eon. I signed up for the central heating care plan and have had my boiler duly serviced for the last couple of years with Eon. Before Christmas I had some work carried out by a local plumber and on…
