Strange Tax Question
If someone cannot live alone for a period due to poor mental health ( for example a severe eating disorder) so rents their home out and moves in with friend/family would they still be liable for capital gains tax on any increase in value of their house if they eventually sold or would they be exempted in some way? Thanks

SDLT/Tax question
My property issues are described in the waiting to exchange thread, but I have some specific questions, so starting a new thread. My GF and I were both selling our houses and buying a new build. It seems her sale has fallen through, so I am applying for a mortgage to cover the difference whilst she re-lists. As we are…

Splitting house deeds
We've got an unusual house. What currently looks like a single property is in fact two, each with their own electrical and water connections, and two lots of council tax to pay. They're currently on one set of deeds (with two titles) and linked by an internal door. Our time to remortgage is coming up and we've built up…

Will surveyors take into account previous surveys?
We have a homebuyers report being conducted on our property. Just wondering, if the surveyor spots any issues, will he discuss them with us, as the owners, before he files his report? We had a structural survey done a few years ago as there were a few cracks that looked more than cosmetic. However, the structural engineer…

Buying a house which currently has tenants
Hello, one of the properties I’m looking at to buy as my own home currently has tenants (their tenancy agreement is due to expire in a few months time) it may possibly be an HMO, and I get the impression that at least one of the tenants are not 100% happy about having to leave - I’m wondering, as I would probably have to…

FTB - Environmental search and contaminated land
We've had our environmental searches back and the report has a 'requires further investigation' part which says we are within 25 metres of unknown infilled land and a factory of unspecified use. The map dates back to 1962 and suggests there was an old quarry near our house which was built in 1970. What are our actions and…
