Buying Housing Association flat
Hi, I wondering how the Right to Buy scheme works if you buy your council/Housing Association property and then re-sell within 10 years. You apparently have to re-pay some of the discount. Does anyone know the mechanism for the repayment? Many thanks, S

Evening all. Looking for some advice regarding a mortgage / house purchase and thought this would be the sensible place to ask.. To give you a general idea: - we own our main residence with a roughly 50% mortgage, interest only, 25 year term. - we have enough savings invested to live off each year with some left for growth…

Council tax issues
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. My fianc! moved out of a shared student house three years ago. The council for that area has recently contacted him stating that he has an outstanding council tax bill. However, the time that they are stating is outside of the time period he lived at that address. Also none of the…

FTB survey confusion
So our situation is that we have had our mortgage offer agreed and we have instructed a conveyancer to act on our behalf for the legal side of things. Neither myself nor my wife have ever been through the buying process before so we're complete novices at this. We used L&C to apply for the mortgage through. The house we…

Stamp Duty query
Hi wise ones, I'm hoping to query the extra stamp duty for 2nd properties. If a first property worth less thank 40k (shared-ownership) hasn't sold before the next property is bought - is the extra stamp duty still payable in the interim or is the value being under 40k for the first property mean the surcharge isn't…

Aip?
Afternoon all. Should I get an AIP before going to view houses? My fears are the following. Go and see a house, like it, put an offer in. Get an AIP and find out that it wouldn’t be enough to cover what I have offered. OR Get an AIP. Not find a house before it expires, reapply and then I believe this could effect my credit…

Boiler problem
Hi, recently moved in to a studio flat. Quickly noticed that there is a dripping noise coming for what seems inside the boiler tank, its a big copper one, looks old. Electrically heated. The dripping is triggered when I use the water from an appliance, more so when using hot water. Initially its quite harsh but dies down…

Lodger, maximizing the money they can give us without having to do taxes
We are a couple renting out a room to a lodger. Tax site says lodger can pay us up to £7500 without us having to inform the taxman. We could possibly rent out another room, but is there any legal way to avoid going over the limit? Could the lodger(s) do any or all of these? Gift us £3,000 or gift us £3,000 each Pay all…

New Build Near Affordable Housing
We have recently shown strong interest in a new build property on a new development, and we would be buying off plan. The plot that’s available that we have shown interest in backs onto the affordable housing (about 20 houses are being built on the land behind ours) Which means our garden backs onto the AH gardens, I…

Anxious FTB - what, when, and who?
I've had an offer accepted on a house, and as I've never done anything like this before I'm very scared and anxious that I'm going to mess up (or delay the process until the vendor gets fed up) and lose the sale. Or worse, buy the house without noticing major problems. Current progress: - no chain - offer accepted,…

Renting fees
It was my understanding that in 2019 England would become more like Scotland in tenants would no longer have to pay fees (such as admin fees) when renting a property - does anyone know if this is still happening? I would love to move this year but last time I moved I have to pay £200+ just in fees!
