ccj and renting
This might sound odd....but... I am probably going to have a CCJ within the next couple of months, well I have sent the court paperwork back although contesting the amount as I have paid money towards the debt since they apparently sent the paperwork to the court in May (must have been a delay in getting to me). Now…

Can I buy my council property?
Hi there, I've given serious thought to my fathers offer of buying my council house for me but I'm not sure where to get started or even if I'd be allowed to buy it because I was told the "right to buy" scheme doesn't exist anymore. I wouldn't be able to afford to buy it myself but both my mum and dad say it's a good home…

Anyone else think a "Landlord Sticky" would be a good idea?
We seem to get posts here on an almost daily basis from first time/newbie LL's; Usually the basic questions, and confusion over how to let, how to pay tax, how to insure, even those many uninformed who are blissfully unaware about consent to let from lenders, freeholders and insurance providers. Poor G_M is constantly…

right to buy council property
I have lived in my council property for 16 years and qualify for full discount which is 70 percent. Trouble is i dont think either myself or my partner will get a mortgage due to poor credit history although we do have a reasonably good income. Any advice much appreciated.

Letting out house and renting elsewhere - tax?
I'm trying to sell my house in order to relocate and keep my job. If I can't, however, I'm also considering letting it out and renting elsewhere. Would I still have to pay tax on the income from renting out my own place, even though I'd still be paying my mortgage AND paying to rent somewhere else? The rental income…

Higher market valuation than agreed price
I've come across valuations pricing the property at less than the agreed sale price but can't seem to find much information about when they price it as higher. Our valuation came back today- our agreed price is £72,000 which is listed as the 'purchase price/ estimated value provided on application' but there is another…

Paying tax on rental income
I hope to rent out my flat to go travelling at the end of the summer, my mortgage is £525 and i plan to rent the flat out for £525, i know i will have to do a tax return, but surely i won't have to pay any tax if my rental income is simply covering the mortgage payments? Any advice appreciated Thanks

Removal / Cardboard Boxes
Does anyone know where I might be able to buy reasonably priced but durable cardboard boxes for moving? Recommendations for websites would be most welcome. Thank you.

Estate Agents have withdrawn our property from the market without consulting us
Hi, I wonder if anyone can offer some advice on this... Transferring from Single to Joint ownership
Hello I currently own a leasehold flat. My partner is buying half of it from me and together we are going to keep it as an investment property. We are jointly taking out a Let to Buy mortgage to raise the deposit for a new home. The flat is valued at £110000 I am shocked at the solicitors charge for the transfer of equity…

Has my mortgage company acted negligently?
In 2007 we bought a rennovation project property and because of the state of the property we paid the mortgage company for a valuation survey to be carried out. The property was being used as a farm right up to the day that we moved in. Subsequently, we have found out that the property does not have General Permitted…

Cash deposit?
Hi MSE, like half of south Manchester I should be moving house next weekend. We've got the house sorted but they want us to sign the contract the day we move. This would be OK but they sent us a letter saying they also want the deposit and first month's rent when we sign it. They don't accept cheques, so what they…

Feel like giving up. Can anyone advise?
Hello, I am currently in arrears of 2212 with my Council flat. The arrears has built up as my ex partner moved out and refused to pay the rent despite me not being able to take him off the tenancy until the arrears was cleared (as I wouldn't be offered a new single - occupancy tenancy with that level of debt) Anyway,…

Scheme to buy property in 5 years, rent out until then
My partner has been trying to sell a house for a year now. Estate agents have not worked, so we put up a private 'For Sale' sign. A local businessman calls and says he'd like to view the house. He likes the house, but says he is in the rental market and has a proposition. Now at the outset I don't think this is a scam, but…

Electrical Inspection/Survey
As per our survey we are looking at getting the electrics tested. It is of course highly unlikely they meet current regulations, but all I want to know is that they are safe and nothing like a complete rewire is needed. Is there a level of electrical survey I can get that will tell me this? The documents provided by the…
