Deposit + what else?
I'm saving for a 15% deposit i.e. 15k or so and was hoping people could advise how much more I'll need for surveys, fee's, legal costs, an amount for kettles, toasters and all the little things, and finally anything else I need to consider. I'm thinking I'll need another 5k for all these things too...

Remortgage or buy-to-let? Please help.
I recently moved in with my partner at her place where she has no mortgage. Having done the right thing and told ING Direct that I was moving and that my house was to let, they slapped a 2% increase on my payments. A bit steep, but I'm still on the fixed 4.85% until February 09, so 6.85 is bearable until then.…

Hi, hope this isn't too long - its a complex situation. My mum and dad sold their house about 3 years ago to emigrate. The emigration has since fallen through, so, as they had a lump sum of cash in the bank, they privately rented a very nice flat in a very nice area.It was expensive rent.In the meantime, i had a baby, and…

How renting out yr property affects your mortgage
If I can't sell my house soon, I will rent it out. My mortgage company has said if we did this (in informal discussions), they will add on another +0.75% on our interest repayment rate. Do we have to tell them? What are the consequences of not telling them? Thanks.

"Private Rented Sector:its contribution and potential"
The full review by Julie Rugg & David Rhodes that began earlier this year is available here: http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/chp/publications/PDF/prsreviewweb.pdf Better to read it from the horse's mouth rather than via extracts from the papers IMO ;) This current government focus on the rental sector is why some of us have…

Petition to Protect Tennants from Repossession
I noticed this Petition on the No 10 websites and as I've been in the exact same position myself back in the last downturn after my Landlord defaulted on his mortgage payments, I thought I would help spread the word and hopefully encourage some signatures, I am sure even most Landlords would agree that tenants should have…

Part buy of inherited house - opinions please
Hi, A friend has just inherited a house and my daughter has the possibility of purchasing 50% of it. This will release equity for the new owner and allow my daughter a foot on the housing ladder. Selling - what's the probem?
I have an empty 4-bedroomed house in Newark, Nottinghamshire, that I wish to sell. The lowest suggestion from three estate agents in April was £199,000, so I instructed one to offer it at £185,000. It didn't go quickly, so I cut it in two stages to £157,000, which is the current price. Someone offered £147,000, so I…

Coming up to the end of our initial 6 month lease with new property and we want to stay longer, we have let the landlord and the estate agent know that we are looking at staying here for at least 1-2 years - we already know the landlord has rented this place for the last 5 years or so. Now the estate agent has replied back…

House Sale - Woodland Grant Problems
In our previous house we planted a few acres of woodland for which we were paid grants by the Forestry Commission and annual payments by Defra. The new owners intended to clear the woodland to make paddocks, so we signed transfer documents for them to take over the rights and responsibilities of the woodland and a…

Sorry if not in the right place. Does anyone know how you find out if your fence is yours or the neighbours? Or do you share responsibility? Our neighbours are both RSL owned, we own ours. Should I feel bad?
Our buyers had a Homebuyers report done on our property, we know we have a penetrating damp problem in the front bedroom and there's a few patches on the chimney breast.
