I have rung British Gas and they tell me that the…

Can I keep switching gas and electricity
Last month I swapped from powergen to British gas via quidco and then powergen tempted me back this month with guarantee of being cheaper than British gas till 2009 and a payment of £25. In the last week I've seen that scottish power would be cheaper again for me by quite a bit. Problem is how often can i change suppliers…

£150 charge to have meter changed
My son just bought his first property. The place has a prepayment meter. He doesnt want this in case it goes off when he's in mid download ;) so he called Scottish Power and they said it would be £150 to have the meter changed. I think this is rediculous... he's a new customer who wants to go on direct debit, a good catch…

British Gas problems
Hi, can someone offer some advice please, We moved home on the 17th April 2006, we have had issues with British gas which were our suppliers for Gas and Electric as they claimed we didn't give them final meter readings. As a result we didn't receive final bills from them. After approx 6 months we received a letter from a…

Energy companies 'exploit poor'
Energy companies have been accused by an industry watchdog of exploiting some of the poorest people in society. Customers with pre-payment meters are paying hundreds of pounds more for electricity and gas than those with access to the cheapest tariffs. According to Energywatch, some people cannot take advantage of lower…

Gas - Southern Electric
My friend has just had gas installed and chose Southern Electric to provide the gas. There's a complex equation for working out the cost, ie converting the units to kilowatt hours. Is this a standard equation and what is the equation? Also, the meter that they have installed appears to be running backwards. This all sounds…

All day, or on timer?
Hi fellow Moneysavers, Can anyone tell me whether it's better to leave your gas central heating on at a lower temperature during the whole day, or is it better to have it at a higher temperature, but on a timer (ie. only on at certain times, & for a certain number of hours a day)? So, it's scenario A : 7am to 10pm - on all…

Energy brokers
I have changed electricity suppliers so many times in the past few years... but every time I look round, someone is always able to come in cheaper. I'm bloody sick of it, to be honest! How are you supposed to know which supplier gives you the best deal? Anyway, for the first time I've actually just used an energy broker…

Can I 'remote control' electric heating over the internet?
Hi All, I'm new here, but after searching a while, there dosn't seem to be any threads for this so here goes: I have a flat with no gas supply and I'm often away on business. I have storage heaters, but I'm not wanting to leave these on permanently due to the cost, but need a nice warm place to come home to. My idea is to…

prepayment meter worries (British Gas)
Ok, it's a long story, but due to unemployment a couple of years ago combined with Child Tax credits etc being stopped due to overpayment (their fault not mine) all our debts basically built up and i'm still trying to get us straight. Our electricity bill at the end of last year was £1000 (since July 05), we're all…

Atlantic Power and Gas - stay or leave?
I've been with them for just over a year and have been fairly happy with the service. On the other hand, I'm not sure whether I'm getting the best 'dual fuel' deal. They operate a 13th month loyalty payment - which seems good - but I'm not sure whether sites like uswitch take this into account when comparing like with…
