Employed AND self employed
If I am both employed and self employed, and earn £37k employed and £5k self employed, have the full tax free allowance, and do not claim any expenses, and pay plan 1 student loan repayments, how much income tax and student loan would I need to pay overall for the year? And how would this be broken down?

A4e (now PeoplePlus) suddenly want bank statement?
Hi, I'm with A4e/WorkProgramme (now PeoplePlus?), I got an email today requesting all my "right to work documents" however they are demanding my bank statement too. Does anyone know why they'd need this? I've never been asked for it before and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to decline showing it. I really dislike how…

Anyone use Pitman shorthand?
Not sure where best to post this request, but I've been asked to make a cake with 'Happy Retirement' written on it in Pitman shorthand. I know it's a hard-to-come-by skill these days and I've no-one to ask except the recipient of the cake. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I would be grateful Thank you

Pay and tax issues
Hi everyone, I just started a new temp job, van driving. It's currently full time but also a bit ad hoc, that's fine, that's what I expect from agency work. Filling in and submitting a timesheet is fine, no problems there. My issue is with the way I'm going to be paid by the agency. They want to set me up as a limited…

Normal From a Recruitment Agency?
Hi, A friend of mine out of the blue from an agency she has had little dealings with has been contacted about a role, supposedly the role is a good match and a few weeks later the company was back in touch advising that she has been shortlisted for interview. This is all normal so far but the agency then brought her into…

Working away
Just wondering everyone's opinions. Work are asking me to be based in another office over in Ireland for the next 3 weeks (weekdays only) covering as they are short staffed. They will pay for my flights and accommodation. Would you expect anything else on top (extra pay) for doing this favour. Being cooped up in a hotel…

Help - suspended from work due to allegation of gross misconduct
I've been working for this company for 11 years and I'm a Fraud Investigator. Yesterday I was advised I'm being suspended from work over allegations I've not been sending letters to customers when I've closed accounts. The first thing I'll say here is there is no audit trail of this as our process (which I suspect is…

Most pointless job spec ever?
I often wonder whether its worthwhile applying for jobs where it says 'experience of system x essential when i have no experience of that system but fit most of the rest of the role profile. I also wo der how seriously some agency staff take the task of 'anonomysing' the job specs they are asked to fill. So.....good luck…

Agency Work- How Does it Pay?
Hi, Sorry to sound stupid (although regular forum users are probably used to it by now ;) ). Anyway, I've been offered an interview with an agency for one job, and they've put my CV forward for another one to fill the gap before the other one starts. I really need a job (but then who doesn't haha). So I was just wondering…

Maths is really not my strong point but I'm confused. I earn £35,500 per year and I've been told I have got a pay rise of about 2.6% which I've worked out to be £923 a year extra on a full time basis. She said she'll give me the full time equivalent when I'm back at work. I only work 2 days a week but she said my pay rise…
