I now work out in the community rather than in the city. My new work were short-staffed so I offered to work to help out. I was on the city "bank" (which is basically a…

I realise I may be clutching at straws! or me and my butterfly net.. but I'm wanting to find out if a recruitment process was followed properly and thinking of doing a subject access request even if it costs me - I need to see a reference or find out whether (as it now comes to light) maybe it wasn't actually ever received…

Sickness Record Resulting in Disciplinary Action
Hello all, My girlfriend has been employed by a Healthcare Charity for over four years, during which time she has a poor sickness record (circa 15-20 days per year). She had pneumonia as a child, and working in an environment where bugs are rife, she invariably picks up anything and everything. To help combat this, her…

I left my old job after handing in my one weeks notice and I have now been given my final week's pay. However, I was advised by the payroll lady that I have accrued 12 days holiday which has not been taken. She advised that this could be paid with my final pay (it wasn't) or the following Thursday, but sounded vague. I am…

I would really appreciate any advice around the period during which a claim for Equal Pay compensation can be brought? Help! Employment agency may cause my eviction.
Hello, I am in an awful situation at the moment; being that the Jobcentre is closed doesn't help (can't find anywhere to speak to someone one-to-one for advice) and I just hope someone can make some sort of sense of this and maybe even tell me that I have some sort of rights regarding what I'm facing right now. I felt I…

How many hours holiday pay?
Hi, my husband works for a smallish local firm. He is paid by the hour a basic rate. His overtime rate starts after he's worked 12 hours. He had Christmas Day and Boxing Day off, but his holiday is paid at a basic 8 hours per day. Is this right if his overtime isn't paid until after 12 hours? Doesn't that mean that they…

National Insurance Contributions (Class 2 NICs) and Small Earnings
I'm registered as self employed. About 2 months ago, I received a bill from the HMRC for Class 2 National Insurance Contributions. The bill says that the outstanding liability period(s) are; 07-04-2013 to 05-10-2013. I take it that this means this bill is supposed to cover Class 2 NICs for the April 2013- April 2014 tax…

any hope zero hour contracts will end soon?
You don't realise...well I didn't realise how bad these things are until you go for an interview for a job offering zero hours! I was told only 5 hours a week would be near enough guaranteed, the rest would be a case of turning up for work after having paid travel costs to get there, to be told whether you would be working…
