Underpaid - do I have to wait until next pay date?

Hi, I was underpaid in my wages yesterday by 14 hours. The payroll lady admitted it was her error and apologised ( apparently there a number of us due to her rushing, payroll are shut down earlier than everyone else for christmas, I have the highest amount of unpaid hours) but said they only do IOU's and I would have to wait until the next payday in four weeks for the rest. I really need this money and it is putting me in tricky situation without it, especially as I was underpaid by 8 hours last month (we are on a DMP so every penny is budgeted for, I had put in a lot of overtime to cover Christmas and our youngest's birthday in January, plus we had sales and discount events at work needing the team to pitch in).
Do I have to wait or is there a way to make them pay it sooner? This is a major supermarket rather than a little family business if it makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You could explain the situation to them but unfortunately if they still refuse to loan the money etc then by the time you start employment tribunal proceedings and get even a smidge down the line on this they will have sorted it.Don't trust a forum for advice. Interesting choice of words. Its her earned wages they have failed to supply, in what way would they be loaning? (please don't say an advance from following payrun).
Op, request they issue you a cheque if they are not prepared to complete a bank transfer. I's be looking for an explanation as to why there appears to be no effective supervision within payroll.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Yawn, you knew what I meant and you're being picky, at the end of the day the supermarket could be obstinate and there is little the OP could do.
And OP, don't bother starting to pick fights with Payroll as per Ohreally's suggestion, it will only cause you more issues and your mistakes might get scrutinised more.
The supermarket should help out but if they refuse as mentioned there is really little you can do for now.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Not sure what you mean by " but said they only do IOU's and I would have to wait until the next payday in four weeks for the rest" This suggests that they are offering an advance of at least some of the money.0

This was the payroll woman's way of saying they don't correct their mistakes on the spot, they effectively acknowledge the undergarments and say " IOU x amount in the next pay" Hope that is clearer?
I'm not quite sure which mistakes I may make payroll would pay attention to?0 -
Underpayment not undergarments lol, apologies, I am typing on my phone and autocorrect kicked in!0

So for 2 months running they have made a mistake with your pay totalling 22 hrs!
Do you think they would tolerate you not coming in for 22 hours? See the store GM and explain to him/her that either the pay dept in store is inept (or more likely overworked) and you would like this back pay immediately! Or would the GM rather you sat in the warehouse and ate £140 worth of stock and then left an IOU!0
