Very confusing situation regarding Dad's will.
Hey guys, Quick background - Dad died in November from stomach cancer. Knew he was going (as did we) so he got his finances in order. With no malice he explained he was leaving all his money to his wife (not my Mother), and the money would then be split between me and my brother when she died. Seems fair, though I could…

Bereavement support payment
Hi - Can anyone out there help, please? My wife has terminal cancer. We are trying to do some financial planning and decide if she should be paying any voluntary NI contributions to avoid me and our children missing out entirely on the new-style bereavement support payment and benefits. She is still nominally…

Probate query
Hi, I'm trying to work out all the probate info and think I'm almost there. Most things were in joint names and so don't need to be included. I think the only thing we require probate for in 1 bank acc, there is under 70k in it but the back have asked for probate as there wasn't a will. So is this the only item I put on…

How long do these things take?
I am posting on behalf of my mum, who will be 81 this year. She recently heard from her older brother that their cousin had passed away in March last year. Said cousin had no children, and no family apart from my mum and her two remaining siblings. Mum's brother has been approached by a solicitor who has asked for details…

Can I revoke my will?
I had a will drawn up 2 years ago which is registered with the official online service, etc. I want to revoke the will completely, and do not necessarily want to draw up a new one just yet. Can I just go back to the original solicitor and ask her to revoke the will and then get it removed from the tracing service?

Probate & IHT Initial Questions
Hi All. After a nightmare couple of months, I still haven't had the 'proper' death certificate, to register my dad's sudden death as yet. After numerous calls to the coroner (now transferred) I hope to get an update this afternoon. I've not been sure what to do - regards accounts etc. so I haven't done anything as yet. I'm…

Account to support widow with small children
My best friend has recently passed away and I want to set up some sort of account that a number of close friends can put money in to provide ongoing financial support for the mother and the children for such things as days out, childcare, holidays etc so she would need to have immediate and ongoing access to the account. I…

Would this will make me an awful person?
Hello, I'm beginning the process of looking at wills for myself and DH but I've got a bit of a dilemma. Despite being together decades, our finances are still very separate. We have a joint account for house, bills etc but we hold separate accounts for everything else and generally go 50/50 on any other bits. Maybe weird…

What good is a will?
My parents told me that they have a will and that I am named the executor. My mother has since passed away. My sister tells me that we need to have our father sign his house over to us in order to avoid probate. I hesitate to do this because of the way my sister and her husband treated his mother when she signed her house…

s27 notice
Hi, we're currently in the process of administering the wife's late gran's estate where both the wife and I are named as executors of the will. Probate has been granted and we are currently in the process of selling her property having agreed a price. Is there any point in placing a s27 notice in the London Gazette and a…

Tracing bank accounts
Sorry if this has been asked before. Is there any way to find out if the deceased had any bank accounts that no paperwork exists for? I'm doing the admin for an auntie. She had two accounts with Santander, I wrote to them and they confirmed it was just two accounts and gave me the probate values. But, later I found a…

My father in law has died. There are three executors one living in America. Changing will of a person with dementia
My brother and I have power of attorney for my mother who is 86 and has Vascular Dementia. Her Psychiatrists secretary rang me last week and told me the Dr had received a letter from a solicitor with a letter attached from my mother giving her permission for the Dr to assess her to sign her will. My mother and father (died…

IHT217 - or IHT400?
Hi folks, I thought the application for my father's probate would be straigtforward - after-all, I managed my mum's, but... The background is nice and simple - my mum, who passed away in the autumn of 2015, left all her assets to my dad. During her lifetime, she was paid interest from a lump sum, left in trust for me by…

Beneficiaries Cannot Get Solicitor to Communicate With Us
My aunt passed away in Canada in Feb 2016 the solicitor who drew up her Will is now dealing with the estate. The Will does not mention her two (twin) mature children and so they have put a Caveat on the Will. The three beneficiaries (my sister, myself, who live in the UK and another lady (lives in Canada) who has been…

Cost of a will
Hi, I couldn't find anywhere to put this but does anyone know, roughly, what sort of price we are looking at to set up a will? We have had a solicitor out to the house and they want £25 a month for the rest of our lives (50+ hopefully) to set a will, in trust, for our 2 children. We think that this is a lot of money to pay…
