Wrong Tax Code - Obtaining a Refund
At the end of February 2016 I have a new job with the NHS. I forgot to hand in my P45 from my previous employer so I was put on an OT CUMUL which means for tax period 12, I paid £224.20 tax which is way higher than I should be paying. I would like to mention that in tax period 11 with my previous employer (Sainsburys) I…

Unemployed but paying full council tax
Hi all, I'm not sure if there's anything to be done, but if not, it's good to rant. After 18 years in the same job, I've been unemployed since 2014, except for a 3 week job in early 2015 - so, just over a year officially. I was unable to find any work where I lived in the midlands, partly due to my eyesight meaning I can't…

I don't qualify for flat rate job expenses?
I've been with the NHS for a few months now. I am a ward clerk and filled in a uniform form with my measurements when I joined. I then found out that only female ward clerks (and similar administrative and clerical roles) wear a uniform and males have to provide their own shirts, trousers and shoes. On this year's first…

Personal Tax Account -PTA
Everyone has a personal tax account. https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account If you have verified yourself on .gov.uk you can see how your tax code has been arrived at and adjust it if incorrect. Do I correctly understand how end of year tax is calculated?
I have 2 jobs. One is paid monthly, and the pay is different each month depending on hours worked. One is paid weekly and the pay varies dramatically, with some weeks nothing being earned, others £120 being earned, and with others £1k being earned, due to how payments for work are processed. This causes my NI payments to…

Marriage Allowance and Self Assessment Form
Just started my on-line HMRC Self Assessment Form for 2015-16. There is a Question to say are you giving away part of your Personal Allowance. But no question to say "Has it been given to you". Hence the Tax Calculation at the end is £212 to high (i.e. 20% of £1,060). Anyone else discovered this?
