I have been out of the UK since 1st October 2009 and as such have paid no income tax to HMRC since then. My question is, if I return to the UK at some point during tax year 11/12 will I be liable for tax in the UK based on my earnings from 5 April 2011 onwards?

Being honest about cash in hand
Evening everyone, hope this isn't too off topic... Basically I have two jobs, one 'official' the other 'unofficial'. With the number of hours I work I owe tax, but because the official job is below the personal allowance threshold I don't pay any. On the self-assessment form you can fill in the section about other income,…

Am I on the right tax code?
I've just seen the Tax Code checker on MSE, and wanted to check that I am on the correct tax code. But it confuses the hell out of me! I work 28.25 hours at Tesco, my hourly rate is £6.81, and my tax code is 647L. I don't know if this effects it, but I'm also a Special, so can claim my mileage back (40p a mile), and get a…

New higher tax bracket
Just looking at the Budget 2011/2012 and it appears that I'll be a few hundred quid out of pocket a year with the new changes in lowering the 40% income threshold down to £35,000 Don't you guys see this as being pretty unfair? With the increase in VAT, reduction in public services... it's really making the UK a lot harder…

Class 2 National Insurance
I have a part time small business. Last year's income exceeded the Class 2 NIC threshold of £5,075. However, it was fully offset by losses that were made in previous tax years. Therefore I am not liable for Class 4 NICs. So the question is - can this offset also have the effect of exempting me from Class 2 NICs also?
