Am I on the right tax code?

in Cutting tax
I've just seen the Tax Code checker on MSE, and wanted to check that I am on the correct tax code. But it confuses the hell out of me!
I work 28.25 hours at Tesco, my hourly rate is £6.81, and my tax code is 647L.
I don't know if this effects it, but I'm also a Special, so can claim my mileage back (40p a mile), and get a meal allowance (rate depends how long my shift was).
If anyone can offer some help, that would be great!

Its the standard tax code for anyone under the age of 65,
It should change in April to 747L
No idea what being a special means, can you elaborate.
The mileage if you are using your own vehicle for business mileage is being paid at the correct rate, (providing you do not do more than 10,000 miles per annum, in which case it will drop down to 25 ppm for any mileage above that.)
The mileage rate will increase from april onwards to 45 ppm. If tesco coninue to pay at 40 ppm then you will be entitled to claim tax relief on the difference between 45 + 40 ppm at the end of the year.
Meal allowance more info is needed.He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -

Thanks!
More information about being a Special here.
Doing way under 10,000 miles, no more than 100 business miles a week.
Isn't Tesco that I get mileage from, the Police, same with the meal allowance. Just so I'm not out of pocket for doing it for free. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -

My gut feeling is that meal allowance is being dealt with correctly, but its an area I'm not 100% certain on.
Keep an eye on the mileage allowance reimbursed after April 6th to see if it increases
Your code might be slightly incorrect, depending upon your role at tesco, you might qualify for uniform allowance, if you are required to wear a uniform for work, and no washing facilities are available you can claim tax relief on £60 per annum for washing your uniform at home, (means about £12.00 per year less tax)
You can claim this by telephoning HMRC, or if you were employed by tesco before April 2010 then in writing, (you can claim back to 2005/06, some of the years relief was only given at 45.00 per annum)He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
As I understand it a "Special" is a voluntary (unpaid) worker and, as such, is not an employee of the police force.
Without going into too much red tape the basic tax principle is that any compensation or reimbursement you get for the expenses you incur in doing voluntary work is fair enough and the taxman is not interested.
If you did 8 hours voluntary, unpaid, work in a day but received a lunch allowance of £100 for that day the taxman really would be twitching but that is really not going to happen is it?
The fact that you are employed by Tesco has absolutely no bearing on the question of whether any money you receive for being a Special is taxable or not.0
