Banks - to switch or not to switch??
Hi all, I'm with HSBC, and I have been for probably 6 years now, but recently they've been peeving me off a little. I very rarely go overdrawn, and never by more than £20, however, HSBC charge me £25 if i go overdrawn by £1 or more! Which is alot of money, because I've just turned 20, and earn just short of £150 a week at…

Basic bank account or savings with cashpoint access?
Happy New year all! Does anyone know of any basic bank accounts that offer cashpoint withdrawals only but can't be used in store. OR, what used to be 'solo' cards I think? Which you could use to purchase in stores but only if the cash was actually available in your account. DD is trying to get her finances in order after…

Lowering electricity costs
Currently I spend about 20 pound per week for electricity and was wondering if it's possible to reduce this cost by switching to a new provider? My current provider is Scottish Power.

Higher online banking payment limits from 1 January 2012
Some of the online banking services have raised their online payment limits. The ones I know about have these new or unchanged limits, checked with customer service: First Direct: increased from £10,000 to £100,000. Still a star. NatWest: still £10,000 outbound. Unlimited inbound. Go to a branch during business hours to do…

Keeping track of account balances
Hi I used to be with egg which I loved because they let you add log in details for all your credit cards, current accounts etc from different companies. It meant that when I logged on to egg I could see all my balances at once. I was just wondering if there was anywhere else I could do this now that egg is no longer an…

Best document retention policy for domestic purposes?
What is the recommended document retention policy for domestic purposes? The 'End of the year' means sorting out lots of papers. Payments above FP limit
As I'm sure all regular readers of the forums will know new rules came into place on 1/1/2012 to ensure all payments reach the recipient's account by D+1 at the latest. This fact sheet suggests that banks will still be able to charge for CHAPS payments over £100K, but there is an implication that any payment that is over…

Small business online bank account, advice?
Hi I want to move my bank account away from Santander, who took it over from Alliance+Leicester. The main attraction of A+L was that it was completely free if you weren't paying in cash (e.g. like a shop), so it was great for my business. All our payments are b2b online transfers and the turnover is <£250k per year. We…

Humans making decisions!
Hi all I currently have a Natwest step account (went through a bad batch about 5 years ago so this was the only account I could get then) and although they keep trying to 'sell' me the upgrade, whenever I try they (their computers) always say no!! So that, along with the changes they have made recently, make me want to…

Thinking of setting up a 2nd account with RBS only for my DDs
Does anyone else do this? I find it hard to keep track of my money, so I was thinking this might be a good method, just transferring the funds to cover my DD's to a separate account. Do I need another current account or is it called something else?
