If you have a friend already on GiffGaff ask them to request a free SIM for you and you will each get £5 credit, I did this when I got my spare phone, it's so easy to do.1 -

I got a giffgaff sim near the end of 2023 for an old phone. I topped it up with £10, and then every couple of months I do an outgoing text to keep the sim alive. I currently have £7.95 credit of that…1 -

you can buy an EE sim with a £10 bundle and then text 'stop pack' to 150 to switch it to 'ordinary' payg. Use it every few months to keep it active1
