OP, I just use my phone on a dash mount. Obvious disadvantages, but the big advantage is it cost me about £10 for the mount and that's it. I use a free app. Phone is connected to USB socket so c…1 -

It costs you nothing so why the concern over the loss of a month. My licence was renewed in November last year but is valid until January 2029 so I don't think you actually lose anything2 -
