In that case they’re probably nesting elsewhere and not necessarily coming up the sewer pipes, unless you find they’ve chewed through the plastic gully grid.1 -

DfV, as a child, we had lots of books (librarian parents!) and a "library book table" with a shelf under, where all the library books were kept so they didn't get misplaced!3
