Ryanair payment fee

Hi, does anyone know why Ryanair want to charge me a payment fee of £2.68, despite the fact that I'm not trying to pay by credit card?

    Any further clues?

How are you trying to make payment (debit card)?

What is the fare? What percentage is the £2.68 of the transaction?

How are you trying to pay? Only debit cards are free, credit cards (including prepaid cards) and PayPal are charged at 2%.
  • Ryanair automatically charge both debit and credit cards, they then tell you to submit a complaint and proof that you have a debit card, to obtain a refund!

No they don't. If you select the right card type there is no debit card fee.

Balderdash! A quick play on the site proves that only PayPal, American Express, Mastercard, Mastercard Prepay and Visa attract the 2% fee. Selecting Mastercard Debit, Visa Debit, Visa Connect or Visa Electron do not.

Original query sounds like user error.

Personally I always pay on credit card for section 75 cover - so I don't have to worry if something like Monarch happens again.

Only 2 weeks until these charges end, I wonder what they will do then.

Make a minor adjustment to their underlying pricing and sale offers that nobody will notice.

The same as every other vendor and service provider, so that we all bear the costs of credit card use even if we're not using one.
    Evolution, not revolution
