The Great Hunt: Where have you had most success complaining?

Where have you had most success complaining?

If you've ever had to complain, with what companies have you had most success? How did you do it? Did you send an angry tweet, fire off an email or opt for the more sedate snail mail?

We'd love to hear your experiences.

  • Definitely on Twitter! Complained on Twitter about the worst bacon sandwich at Sainsburys on Twitter last Sunday...really bad... And they gave me £15 on my Nectar card! + Seemed the only way Scottish Power would get back to us about a massive credit on our account was through my Twitter too!!

Had over £1K back in 12 months from mistakes by just one bank. :/ xxx
  • NPower relented yesterday & wrote off £41 after a couple of emails & a quick phone call.
  • Complained to Travelodge twice now through Twitter - public domain so they speedily reply and respond. Managed to get a £30 e voucher to use against a future hotel booking due to poor service received.

Complained to London hotel and received a complimentary stay, worth about £230.
  • I ordered a sideboard from Dunelm which never arrived. Rang Customer Services three times who promised to sort it but just didn't. I then decided to email the Chief Exec complaining about their poor Customer Service and lack of delivery. Within 2 hours I had a phone call from them full of apologies for poor service and errors that lead to none delivery. Offered me £50 vouchers which I accepted and received the next day. If I need to complain I usually write to the Chief Exec of a company, often they have no idea how useless some of their staff are! I don't do Twitter.

I had several BT Business complaints long outstanding - 12 in total. On the phone, I'd be pushed from department to department, from support desk to support desk. This was happening over a 3-week period with no end in sight but hours spent on the phone.

Complained on Twitter - I had 10 of those resolved, closed and compensated within a week after giving them the complaint ref's via DM. The other 2 took a bit longer but got sorted quickly in the end.

I had an issue with a kitchen from Wicks; when the units were installed the sink position was 10cm out and to me it looked odd. Some friends couldn't see a problem. I emailed photos to the designer I had been working with who passed it on to customer services – they were brilliant. They ordered to replacement units which made it look right, credited my account with enough to pay the builder for a days work and gave me a £50 voucher.
A friend and I also had success in complaining to Cineworld about one of their "live" screening when there was a problem with the transmission. We got codes to book again for something else – I'm looking forward to seeing the Nutcracker just before Christmas!
    So I would recommend emailing.
  • Granted the whole process took me about five months but a repayment of £85.50 (ending a contract with Time talk) turned into £153.00
I like these complaints especially those that make me money following their incompetence??
