I paid £3 for 2 copies to be comb bound at my local printers.
My local Staples charges £2 per document.0 -
It's about £3.80 to comb bind something at my local print shop, but that includes a sheet of card for the back and a sheet of acetate to cover the front ... I wouldn't bother investing in a comb binder, what will you need it for after this? Also, it's a bit of a tricky job - at least if the shop mess it up they'll refund you, if you do then you're even more out of pocket0

Its cheap for simple binding such as comb binding - but some universities require hard back binding, mine cost me £20 each!0

Yup, our Uni requires hard binding. Very expensive, OH paid about £15-20 per binding and they Uni required two copies. He paid about £10 per copy of his dissertation printed out which was another £20.
Rather annoyingly our Uni made it clear that if you dont use their binding service (which is expensive and constantly overcrowded this time of year meaning you will be there about 5 hours waiting to be served) they will deliberately mark you down.

Such a restrictive practice is illegal. The university must make clear the specificiations that it requires for binding, and could reasonably deduct marks if those specifications are not followed. But if an independent binder meets those specifications, the academic marking the thesis should not be able to tell the difference, and certainly should not allow that to affect the marks awarded.0 -
I got mine thermal bound in staples - about £4.50 a copy.
I also bought decent quality paper (£9 a ream) and printed on my own laser.. It was worth it though.0 -
My local Mailbox Etc charges £4.00 for binding with cover."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

I came down to Aber uni and got mine hard bound for £6 a copy.... though it did cost around £15 in printing costs to print two copies out. But the local bookbinders to our university (recommended by them!) wanted £35 a copy :eek:0

Hmm my department are obviously nice - they bound mine themselves at no cost.0

I would no bother to buy your own comb type binder because unless you only have a few pages they are hard to manage if you are a novice with them. Far better to take them to a print shop if the university will accept that or a book binder if they will not.0
