Tesco are currently selling 3kg bags of Fusilli pasta for £2,
should keep the average student going for a while :)

  • Yebbut have you seen the price of tinned tuna ;-(
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • My son is off in just under a fortnight and my daughter a couple weeks after that...she is in her 3rd year and in the swing of things, so she will just take her veggie stuff from home... my son is starting his first year in halls and I have a box in the shed that I am topping up, boil in the bag rice from Lidl was on offer over the weekend, jars of pasta sauce, salt pepper, it's amazing how much you actually have in your cupboard that it duplicated/triplicated - the box is quite full already - keeping my eye on the Food shopping board on MSE for good offers
2011: £10 Sports Direct Voucher, Peppa Pig Wii Game, Trivial Pursuit Card Game, £100 Chat magazine win, Dance workout dvd, Grease wii game,

    Yeah, I've noticed that, too.

    What do students eat now!?

Even sardines are a bit pricey these days!

You have inadvertently reminded me that I have forgotten tomato sauce! :) These boxes are so heavy by the time we have finished loading them up. One of mine went last weekend(4th year) and like yours pretty self sufficient. Another goes Friday week (thought it was two weeks Friday so now have a week less to get organised)
  • Definitely lived off those massive bags of pasta and rice as a student! Such a god send :D

That and value canned tomatoes, you can make it a bit more classy than your average beans on toast ;)
  • It seems like yesterday I was starting uni. I'm going into my last year now. Lots of pasta, look out for cheap tuna and stick bread straight into the freezer and just use the microwave/toaster to defrost what you need.

Plenty of room in the fridge for alcohol and remember to paracetamol tablets for the next morning.

Amazing 3 years! I would say I'd love to start it again, but I'm tired of being poor now. Job please... :D
  • I've been buying stuff, when on offer, for Junior who is off in a fortnight's time.

He informs me today that I might have 'overdone' the amount of shower gel and toothpaste I've been putting away.:rotfl:

I've also bought a supply of cleaning stuff (washing up liquid, cloths etc ) and figured that as there are 8 of them in the flat, then if everyone bought then they should have enough to keep them going until Christmas.......however his dad did think I was being a tad optimistic when I bought him a set of toilet ducks that were on offer:rotfl::rotfl:

Started about three months before DD left last year getting BOGOF's with the weekly shop and putting the freebie in her box. Bought loads of tinned food, pasta, ketchup, plastic storage bags, shower gel, toothpaste, cleaning stuff, loo rolls, etc. Then enrolled online for Co-op number, Tesco etc for her to get all the money off first spends and did online shops when she got there.

The box kept her going throughout her first year and she topped up with fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish from M & S on the 3 for 2's!!

    I still do.

Can't afford the tuna now though. It used to be a staple, now it's a rare treat.
