Black Horse PPI Claim - They won't respond

Hi there
I have written around 7 letters to Black Horse in the last 18 months asking them to look into PPI I was mis-sold in 2004, I realise it's a bit over the timelimit but thought I'd give it a go after seeing others managing it on the forum.
They haven't responded to any of my letters which have been sent Recorded Delivery so they def rec'd them.
I have called them numerous times but they say they can't find my file without an account number.
Should I pass this over to a PPI reclaim firm to see if they have better luck or can I complaint to any independant authority about their failure to respond?

They really are awful. They told me at the time that my loan would not be accepted without taking the insurance. I paid the loan off early, when I asked them how they calculated the settlement figure they couldn't give me a straight answer. Good luck to your friend anyway.0

When you say you wrote a letter did you do one of the FOS questionaires? Blackhorse from what they told me have a filing system where archived loans are stored in a system where retrieval depends on knowing the account number.
I sent them a SAR request with all the account numbers I had for the later loans I had with them (they were the type of company that wrote every year offering to "extend your loan" so many people had loan after loan rolled into the next. If you get the agreement for one loan it will have the ref number of any loan settled so you can go back to them with that number.
It took a while but bit by bit I got my agreements back to 1997 (there is no time limit on how far back you can claim, just issues around getting the details).
For some of my PPI claims I found ref numbers on a old printout of a credit file (they don't seem to put the numbers on recent versions but if you can find an older one?).I even heard of someone popping into the local llyods at a quiet time and a nice assistant at the counter managed to trace some account numbers for their BH loans for them.
Are you sure you have nothing with the number on,the agreement/letter/statements anything?

Ive just got my payout from black horse from a loan I took out in 2002, that was paid off early in 2005... This also included an earliker loan I had taken out in 2001 (the 2002 loan paid off the first one)...
Have you filled in the form from their website?? I was simply and easy to fill in.. send special delivery and photocopy everything first...
Took 9 months to get my money back, I got £3200, £1200 of it was interest.. I was only expecting about £1500!
Luckily I still had the original account number..so they couldnt fob me off!!!0 -

How much was your loans for?0 -
Im putting my claim in for Black Horse. From what I have read they drag their heels, even after agreeing a payment some people are still waiting in excess of 64 days for monies returned.
If you havent got any paperwork or the account number it will be hard to progress. If you check your credit report though, it may have the reference number on that.

Hello
Thank you for the advice everyone.
The loan was paid off more than 6 years ago so there are no details on my credit file. Does anyone know if it is possible to contact Experian or Equifax for a copy of an old credit file as it would def be on that. I have ordered copy statements from my bank account at the time in the hope that the account number shows on there somewhere.0 -

Not certain it would be on your experian report, possible though as mine was, it was settled 01/2007.0 -
