What everyday goods do you now consider a treat?

Just wondering what kind of things - food and non food - that you used to use on a regular basis without any thought do you now consider a treat or even a complete no go area?
I used to buy seedless green grapes most weeks but now I don't even look at them as I think they are so pricey.
Spreading cheese was once a treat, not any more.
Any kind of pasta sauce has been consigned to history. I make my own now, always.
We don't eat many chocolate biscuits but when I did buy them it was always Tunnocks as I wanted to support local (ish) businesses but again they are so pricey they aren't even really a treat now. Think I last had one at Christmas
I also used to go through gallons of hairspray - stopped that completely and can't say I see any difference. What a waste of money that was for 20 years!
I'm just being nosy about other's habits - what have you traded in or done away with?

Me and my oh had some fish and chips yesterday from the chippy, which is a bit of a treat for us these days whereas we.wouldn't have thought twice about it in the past! We were actually laughing about the fact that something so little is now a treat!Mammy to 2 boys aged 5 and 20

For me,I now consider chocolate bars a treat, when a while back a Snickers bar was around 35p,they're now nearly double that.bung in a bag of crisps & a tin of pop & you're talking near three quid!0 -
Hi Scottishminnie,
I have to limit myself to one meal per day at the moment (have done for the last year or so - bl**dy fuel prices and VAT rise!!!). I did treat myself to some seedless grapes at the weekend, but they were on the reduced shelf, so I'm not sure that counts!!
Chocolate, fish and chips, shop-bought sandwiches (my downfall!), breakfast cereals, marinated olives... I could go on!
My parents invited me 'round for some Indian take-away on Friday (we're lucky, we've got a REALLY good one where we live) and it was the nicest thing I've had all year!
I don't have a TV either - but that's for my head and not my tummy!xx

I can remember my mum used to send me down the chippy for fish and chips once a week as it was a cheap supper! I think its definately in the 'treat' category now!
I do have to say to the OP that I live very close to an Aldi and find thier prices on fresh fruit and veg are very very reasonable - especially thier 'Super Six' which are an absolute steal! Dont you have Aldi in Scotland?
TBH - I am one of Aldis greatest fans - we could never afford to eat so well if I had to shop at the Tresco and ADSA every week! I calculate I save about £25 to £30 a week!0 -
Yup,portion of fish & chips from my local chippy is nearly seven quid! Even chips on their own are nearly three quid! You can get a Indian or Chinese take out cheaper!

Oh NO!!! Spike, you HAD to mention Chinese take-away, didn't you?!? I think I might go and cry into my home-made soup (hmm.... might save a bit on the salt....)! x0 -
Chicken madras and mushroom fried rice..... yum found the best take away around christmas time, could only afford it once since. It'was still yummy but at nearly £8 a pop since starting work again not affordable.-2lbs
Goal: lose 7lbs0 -
Hmm branded hairspray, I've started using an Asda version (not smartprice the one up) and it's just as good and a ton cheaper! I also use less of it.
Kitchen Roll I never gave a second thought, now I think before using any.
Takeaways are definately a treat now rather than a regular occurance.
Makeup is definately a treat now, I still use it daily but I use what I have and buy MUCH less often now, saves wasting.
Proper chocolate, definately a treat nowadays. Oh and clothes are a very rare occurance nowadays.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

No Aldi's down here, alas. There was talk of a Lidl's coming to a town nearby, but they didn't get planning permission (would "lower the tone of the area", apparently. Bah!)
Where fruit and veg are concerned, I try and stick to what's actually in season at the time. Tends to be a bit cheaper and tastier, too. Also, if you have a local (street) market, you can save mega-bundles if you go at the end of the day. The prices fall quicker than a footballer's girlfriend on cheap hooch! :rotfl:0 -

£3 blimey where do you live, sounds like you need to move large chips where I am are £1.20 and a large cod £3.30.0 -
Fish & chips, not as expensive where I am as a previous poster but still almost £5, a definite annual treat. Last year from my brothers local chippy we shared a portion as it was huge, shame they don't reduce the size & price.
