CAR HIRE IN iRELAND

Ive never hired a car in the uk or ireland before only in europe of America, was looking at cars today as thinking of flying to ireland as flights are so cheap, problem is we need a 7 seater cos of the kids and im getting quotes bewteen 500 - 700 even for the basic model 7 seats just for a week!!
surely this isnt right i didnt even pay that much for a months car hire in florida!
Any advice on where to look...i dont want to drive/ boat as it takes ages but may be cheaper option!

I usually find Auto Europe have the best deals for Ireland.
The summer season in Ireland is short and prices are inflated then.0 -
I normally use elephantcarhire.net. Ive used them 4 times now, twice in Ireland, once in Italy and once in the USA. I've been very satisfied with them on all occasions.0

Does zipcar cover Eire? I've used them (as streetcar) before for long distances, petrol is all inc so it worked out to be good value.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
