HP laptop keyboard problem: n = n5, 6 = b5. How do I fix that?

I have an HP G61-110SA laptop and tonight the keyboard has gone funny. When I press b or 5 it displays "b5" rather than just "b" or just "5". Similarly when I press n or 6 it displays "n6". The keyboard settings seem okay and I tried resetting the laptop and pressing num lock. Looking on Google, someone had a similar problem and bought a new keyboard for their PC but this is a laptop. I tried plugging in an external keyboard and that worked okay. The laptop is out of warranty. It is a repair job or is there anything I can do to fix it?

you could try removing the keyboard and reseating the connector but suspect a new keyboard is in order
anything spilt on it ??Ex forum ambassador

Nothing spilt on it, just a tiny bit of dust under the keys which I removed to no avail.
It's ironic that I posted a thread on here a couple of hours ago asking whether my friend should buy an extended HP warranty - I wish I had one myself! The laptop is only 16 months old.

Thanks. Are these keyboards easy to install? For now I am using an external keyboard.0

Thanks, that looks relatively straight-forward.0
