Mercedes Benz World Day Out
What's it about?
Mercedes Benz has opened Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey. The ad says you can put cars to the test on handling circuits (although there's a charge for this) and there are exhibitions, interactive attractions and simulators.
How much does it cost?
Admission is free, it's open 7 days a week, 10am to 7pm.
More info:
There's more information on its website: www.mercedes-benzworld.co.uk

admission to the attraction is free, but driving on the tracks isn't. E.g. £100 for a 60 minute drive of an AMG/SLR or £375 for a half day. £25 for a 15 minute passenger ride.

My OH spent all last weekend there - he works for Mercedes as an instructor, so if you go you may get him sitting next to you!
Ooh, I've gotta little star! What's that for then?!!

Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds like fun but would you like to sit next to some boy racer, sometimes without dual controls, and be blatted around a circuit? Admittedly he does get some small perks occasionally, like driving old Bentleys, Lambos, Nobles, etc; and he does get to work with a lot of the greats of F1, but he's frequently away from home or leaves very early (4:30 am!) to get to the circuits. An instructor was injured at Goodwood just last year - so just listen up anyone who has a go at these things - the instructor knows what he's talking about when he says slow down for the next corner!!!
Ok - rant over - wouldn't mind a go meself actually as he gets some pretty neat clients too. My daughter was mortified to learn that he spent the day with Rowan Atkinson recently, she just loves Mr Bean!

Mercedes Benz World is Great!
We got taken there with my 4yr old by friends and had a blast - loved the building and the chance to sit in every single mercedes benz in the showroom! My son enjoyed the whole experience and the building itself is amazing - thoroughly recommend to amuse the kids and for any car enthusiast! Its free to visit - coffee shop and toilet facilities lovely too!

My 6-year-old prefers the nearby Brooklands Community Park.
Much more fun.

Brooklands - perfect day out for petrol heads
Just returned from a day trip to both the Brooklands motorsport and aviation museum and also the adjoining Mercedes Benz World centre.
We thoroughly enjoyed both attractions. At the museum you absolutely must get a ride in a vintage racing car around what remains of the banked circuit - at a £1 per person it was a real hoot! Also they have a London Routemaster double decker bus which nearly tips over as it trundles round- take a change of pants!
The Merc centre is free to enter with all the latest range from Smart cars to Maybachs to sit in. There's a short film & a 3D ride, cafe, restaurant plus all the ( pay for ) driving experiences. Highly recommended.
PS for those that aren't into planes & automobiles there's the usual out of town retail barns on the same site.
Assume 1st then check the facts!

Just to clarify, the former is a museum which costs money to get into, and is not associated with Mercedes Benz World, apart from being adjacent. The Mercedes Benz World is free basically you go and drool over the S-Class AMGs and marvel at the softness of the leather and open the doors and play with them, or gaze at the McLaren SLR from behind a rope, and you can watch people driving out the windows. They also do driving lessons for 14-year olds (or anyone big enough to reach the pedals)
If you want to do the driving experience, best book it in advance, you can do M-Class offroad, £100 for an hour, or drive an AMG for 60 minutes for £150, or do a handling course for £75 for 30 minutes.
The shopping's pretty grim, there's a Tesco/M&S, Argos, and Mothercare.

Man oh man. I wish they'd bring this back.
My girlfriend (yes gf!) is enamored with the new S500 but we can't afford one. It would be amazing if they did another one like this next time we're in the UK. I suppose I'm just dreaming.
