William JS Clark to "Rewards First"
My credit card has been charged £9.95 by you on 4th July on reference 10863970. What was this charge for and how did you get my card details?

Dear William Clark,
Thank you for your email received on 21 July 2010 regarding how you became enrolled in this membership with Rewards First. We have set out a brief explanation of this process.
Your membership record indicates that you agreed to Rewards First when you clicked on a banner ad presented on the Ambassaodr website after an order was placed. This banner offered a £10 Cash-Back on your order as a welcoming gift when you join up to Rewards First. To become a member you have to physically input your details in the empty field provided and this includes your payment card details.
Additionally, by enrolling in the trial membership, you agreed and acknowledged that after the 30 day free trial membership period, you would be billed the monthly program fee.
A welcome e-mail was sent to the e-mail address you provided at the time of enrollment. This e-mail would have also explained the terms of the membership as well as the benefits you are entitled to.
If you have any queries now or in the future, please feel free to contact Rewards First by telephone or email during normal office hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) using the contact information provided below.
Yours Sincerely
Carl Green

My reply:
As a trial, I used your website to attempt a booking with McDonald Hotels. Your site promised a price of £56. When I clicked on Buy Now I was connected to McDonald's own site where the price was £380. Other hotel booking sites quote £140.
I also tried Comet where I was looking to buy a blue ray DVD player. All I was offered were unbelievably expensive cooker hoods.
I could not even reach Ambassador tickets through your site.
I am cancelling my membership and copying this to Martin Lewis' website.
As far as I can recall, I did not give rewards first my credit card details, so they must have been able to "piggy back" their charge onto my booking with Ambassador Tickets.0 -

Thank you all so much for the warning. I almost clicked on a large banner that looked like it was from eBay, saying "We are giving you £10 cash reward and a 30day free trial to Rewards First". Very misleading. I'm so glad I checked first.0

Oops - just seen that I should have posted on the other MSN thread on this subject

On checking my bank account, I have just discovered that this company has been debiting a sum of £14.95 since last September. I have never authorised this company or ever been in touch with them. Feeling rather foolish at not having noticed this but for my wife having gone over my accounts. How is it possible for this company to access my bank details ? Does anybody know whether there is any likelyhood of recouping this money? I have e-mailed to cancel my so-called account but as I have no idea of a so-called membership number, I am unable to quote one.

I have been in touch with consumer protection who is forwarding details to trading standards, as they think it could very well be criminal. I have been on to rewards first again asking for details, as todate they will not give details how they obtained my bank details, but it looks as if it was when I booked tickets with Flybe. Though frankly I look a complete prat for letting this go on for so long I am determined to try and give this lot some bad publicity, starting with a press release to warn people. Many thanks for your support James0

If you get offered cash back on a banner from Rewards First, do not go near it. They piggy back from a purchase you have made from someone such as Easyjet or Flybe and then take £14.95 every month from your credit card. I was stupid enough not to realise this was going on 5 months. When the penny dropped, I phoned the number on the statement and complained, they cancelled the monthly payment and refunded me. However the following month I found that they had refunded me on 24th March, but charged me again on 17th March. Their call centre will tell you that you agreed to their terms and conditions as you click through, but this was not the case, as by the time I realised what this was all about it was too late and they had signed me up. I repeat again. Stay away and do not click on any rewards scheme like Rewards First after you have made a purchase from a 'reputable site' pushing free money or special discount vouchers or money off your next purchase.0

I noticed today a payment of £14.95 a month coming off my credit card from a company called Rewards First. Hadn't a clue who they were so rang the company. Apparently when I booked some flights through Flybe back in February I had signed up to this company by clicking on a "get £15 cash back" button (at the time I presumed this was from Flybe). I have no knowledge of this company, thought I was getting the reward form Flybe, but clearly my credit card details have been passed on and £14.95 a month has been taken ever since (what a fool I feel for not checking earlier). Rewards First claim they can email me the screenshots proving I signed up to them - but have not had anything as yet, and don't expect to. Flybe dont answer the phones so cant complain to them. Have reported Rewards First to Consumer Direct, and cancelled the subscription with Rewards First, but no chance of getting any money back. This is so unfair, so unethical - and to voice one of the other posts - isn't this criminal?0
