Why they thought this would be 'news' I don't know.

The only point I can see being worth looking at is the commitment not to close the last banking facility in a community.

And even that will be taken out of their hands shortly when the English and Welsh RBS branches are divested.
  • To be honest, if they fail to hit at least 6 of them(which is their target) then I would be absolutely gobsmacked. Most of what they are proposing is pretty easy to hit.

and promises staff will not increase credit limits for already-struggling card-holders.

How is that defined? What if it's the right thing to do in the circumstances?
  • It's commitment number 8

"8. We will continue to be leaders in responsible lending

We don't provide credit limit increases to those who are struggling to meet payments on their credit card and will continue to work with independent organisations to help people in financial difficulty. We will also introduce a dedicated support team to help those who are fallinginto financial difficulty."

For those English and Welsh RBS branch customers these commitments will cease fairly soon anyway........
  • And as for the maths they have given MSE it is quite shocking on the fact that over 800 branches will be opening on Saturday. On RBS website it is 80 branches open on Saturday and on NatWest it is 600 so that makes 680. Do Media Relations need a new calculator? Is this the reason that the UK taxpayer had to put money into the bank?
Does the lack of a bonus mean that they are employing less able staff? Answers on a postcard, pmsl.
In 2008 they stated that they were having 883 branches open on Saturday so by my maths I make it that RBS /NatWest have already achieved one of their promises, lol!

In my area Saturday opening has been tried out in virtually every branch and they've settled on one out of about 15 branches opening.

In principle its a good idea BUT (and its quite a big but) the real concern if why they need a charter to spell out stuff they should be doing anyway. I'd love to believe they mean it, but they're a bank so I tend to instinctively disbelieve anything they say just to be on the safe side.

Lets hope they also plan to actually address customers concerns, maybe then issues like bank charges wouldn't get so out of hand...
Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.
  • The only way that RBs can gain customer trust is to up the interest rates for savers, and give cheaper loans nothing else will do, so it is useless talking about longer opening hours etc :(
