Am I being ripped off? (it feels like it)
British Gas came to quote for a new Combi Boiler the other day. Ps my house was built in 1981 (so is modern), 2 bedrooms + 1 "box" room, standard semi.
I thought 2-3 grand maybe. Nearly fell of the chair when the sales guy added it all up! £4,740.01! Yes, then penny may have pushed me over the edge. I was told the quote was a little bit higher because I wanted to go on their new INTEREST FREE offer!
Advice, don't bother! The interest free is a con. I checked the actual price for this boiler online and the model they were going to install is only £800+VAT.

Yes that is a rip off! I posted on the other thread about central heating, but basically we paid £3500 for 7 new radiators and combi boiler.0

If you are just lookling to change the boiler, £2 - 2.5k is more likely.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I've just had a quote for a Worcester Bosch 30CDI installed, with a new flu putting in, powerflush, magnaclean on a 9 radiator system for £3500....with a possibility that could drop to just over £3000.
I found the salesman pretty rude, unhelpful, took any question as an outrageous slur on the company and even if he'd offered it for half the price I'd think twice about giving him the business.
The boiler I could buy myself without any trade discount for about £800. So it's a pretty expensive "package" you're paying for.0 -
when i read 4700 i thought it was cheap... thought your house would be a 3 bed semi or something like this.
I did a full refurbishement to a house.. and part of the job was the boiler and 8 radiatorss.
bg came first at 6800 plus vat. and the guy was hopeless! he first thought i owned the house - i heard the word''powerflushing 6 times in 20 mins... then when he heard me on the phone booking an appointment for a quote and realised i was a builder , did drop 900 quid and when i asked him'' do i get my teeth profesionally whitened and powerflushed within the price?
the guy just walked away.
I got a gas safe registred man and including materials at4200..and it came with assurance that if leaks in a house within a year he ll fix it free
You pay for british gas plc prices and dont be fooled- you wont get the perfect quality either, seing it by their salesmen s behavoir and cluelesness0 -
I used to work for BG and it was almost a running joke the prices they charged for doing new systems. The engineers get a healthy bonus for recommending a new system too once it's paid for so that's where a significant chunk of the extra goes. BG make their money on contracts and servicing so don't try to compete with new systems, if they get one they get a huge profit, bonus!0

you get what you pay for ..i have spent my life going round after plumbers working on the boilers they have fitted and most of the time the boiler are not fitted correctly (sorry but this is a fact) ..
its very hard to find somebody to do the job right at a fair price ..X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.
Please don,t let this put you off.0 -
