IP address change to a UK address to use BBC Iplayr

Hi currently in Asia but want to see a programme on BBC Iplayer but it won't work because it's not a UK IP address I am using. Is there a safe way to convert the Asia IP address to a UK IP address free of charge?

Thanks.

    You can't convert your IP.

However you can access the web using a proxy server in the country required. However be careful as you don't know who runs proxy servers, and they could monitor all traffic, peal off passwords and so forth, so don't use for anything secure.

List of public proxy servers here: http://www.publicproxyservers.com/

As far as I understand BBC iplayer will not allow access via a proxy

iPlayer is not available outside of the UK as it's funded by the UK licences payers fees.

I think it's inappropriate to explain to someone how to access this fee paying service illegally.

Even if you are a UK licence payer you still can not (ie should not) access the service from a non-UK address.

It's not illegal if you bother to read into the details covered by many websites – many people use it whilst in their holiday home, whilst fully paying a UK TV licence.

If I travel abroad I'd like to be able to watch various BBC channels, and I should have every right to, I'm a fully paid up licence payer and a UK resident.

In many countries copyright laws are not as restrictive as in the UK (or are non-existent!), and so it may be perfectly legal to stream whatever copyright material you wish even without a valid licence.

In any case, the Internet is global so there's no reason to suppose that any website would be unavailable in a particular geographical region. So long as the connection you use doesn't firewall the content you'll be fine.

Slingbox is a great idea...however unless you've got a fast outbound connection where your Slingbox is (ie not typical UK Asynchronous DSL), it doesn't work very well.

But isn't that what the iplayer is doing? OK, I guess the website is still available but it's multimedia content is not. The same thing happens in other countries too - I have been trying for ages to watch the Jay Leno show online but NBC's website does not allow this to happen. I've used tons of proxies but none of them work and apart from little clips off youtube I have resigned myself to never being able to watch his show. CBNC Europe are broadcasting his old show but that is now hosted by Conan O'Brien who is not as good.
