Fixed Penalty Notice - Please help re: code

Can someone kindly help me please.

A policeman stopped me on the 2nd August and issued a fixed penalty fine of £60 because my son was not wearing a seatbelt in the rear seat ((shrug)). I have 28 days which expires soon so I decided to pay it tonight before time runs out.

I went on the site: http://caofp.latestinfo.co.uk/, put in my details and where it asks for "enter your fine code letter", I have put A because on the ticket it gave me is Offence Code A316 Child in rear seat not wearing a seatbelt.

EXCEPT, Code A is trying to charge me £80 not £60 which clearly states on my ticket.

I have now checked the codes on that site and get the below (none cover my offence):

What do I do please?
What are the different types of notices issued?

Either way just pay it as your lucky not to be getting points and an even more significant fine,

Except there is now a problem  The Code A is payable within 21 days and the site says if you don't pay within the time stipulated, don't pay as payment will be returned. The driver now has to wait to recieve a summons

The £60 fine is however, within 28 days. Oh woe woe woe. Should I pay it by post?

You want code E which is a motoring offence which is also at the right cost, I got this information from your second post. I have never paid a fine (or got one).

Thank you BUT code E shows 3 penalty points on licence. If I use this code (which is NOT on my ticket), will I automatically get these points?

If you do get summonsed seek some advice and just admit it if necessary and explain you thought you had 28 days missed it then followed the advice to wait.

Thank you. The ticket clearly states A fine of £90 will be registered against you at a court unless within the next 28 days you EITHER pay a £60 fixed penalty in full or request that the matter be dealt with by a court hearing.

There is an option to pay by post so I wonder if I should by it 1st class tomorrow. It should then reach on time. What do you think? Thank you.

Can you pay it over the phone by card? All you have to give them on the phone is the ticket ref number (not offence code as they know that by the ticket number)

Thanks. That's another option. I'll call first thing. Thank you.

The penalty you mention is a non-endorsable motoring offence, so technically code N covers this. Normally, code N is a £30 fine but seat belt offences have recently increased and it seems that the website hasn't been updated to reflect this. In other words, there are now code N £30 fines and code N £60 fines.

What you could have here is a little loophole. It would be rather interesting to test this. If you pay under code N, then you could get away with paying exactly what it tells you (half the fine) providing the system automatically closes your ticket and logs you as having paid without further human intervention. If so, and you don't hear anything, you're in the clear. If it's spotted and you are summonsed for the remaining £30, then pay it, but you shouldn't be liable to penalty charges as you can prove that you acted with all due diligence in paying what the system would allow you. It's not your fault that the system wasn't updated.

If you really don't want to go down that avenue, then choose another method to pay as other posters have suggested.
