The easiest way is to capture them to your computer using a video capture device. I use a little USB device called Easycapture.
The files on a SKY hd are not usable as they're encrypted and cannot be read by a computer. AFAIK!
Some people have experimented by putting larger HDs in their Sky boxes, but you have to be careful which make you use, as they need a quick spin up time.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
Wouldnt a DVD recorder do connected to sky box?
Afraid thats the only solution I can think off. I dont have this trouble with my freesat box just load a usb pen drive and upload to pen drive0 -

I wish I could do that. I've bought a Humax PVR-9300T which is a great machine. Annoyingly however, it has a USB port on the back but the manual says (currently not supported), a fact that I've confirmed by trying a USB memory stick in the port ... nada
I don't know whether this is because it is not internally connected, or simply not supported by the current firmware. If the latter, I'm hoping Humax will extract the corporate finger and offer a firmware update PDQ.

SKY is copy protected. Unless your willing to spend 300 quid+ to buy a gizmo to get around it, then its not gonna happen im afraid.:idea:0

you can back it up to a dvd recorder that how i do mine0

Afraid it only works on the new Humax freesat HDR it has two usb slots one in the front and one in the rear to download recordings via usb pen drive or usb portable hard drive via the in built file manager. It doesnt as yet work with HD content as that is protected contentI wish I could do that. I've bought a Humax PVR-9300T which is a great machine. That's what I feared, but thanks for the confirmation. If I ever buy another PVR, it certainly won't be a Humax, having been let down so badly on this one.

You cannot get around the Sky encryption and make a direct digital copy that will play on something else but there are a few other options.
Belnahua mentioned a video capture device above. I have one of those. It is made by Adaptec and works very well. I use the analogue audio phono sockets and S-VHS video sockets at the rear of my Sky+ box. This is not a HD box but that should not make any difference to you if the HD box has similar analogue sockets, The Adaptec converts that back into a digital mpeg2 file that can be played on the PC and many other devices. Despite the digital to analogue to digital conversions, the quality is pretty good. There are quite a few video capture devices on the market.
Another option is to use the same sockets to directly feed a DVD recorder and make DVD copies.
The only way to preserve the original Sky standard or HD recording is to make a copy using Copy+ onto another hard drive. This requires you to open up your Sky box and remove the disk.
You would need a PC with two spare disk slots or two external USB or Firewire disk caddies.
Copy+ will then make an exact copy of the Sky+ disk. You could then delete the files on the Sky+ disk and replace it back in the machine giving you an empty disk to store more films etc on.
When you want to play the original films, you would need to put the copied disk in the Sky box.
All that may sound cumbersome but it is actually quite easy and only takes a few minutes. I have 2 disks that I swap around in my Sky+ box, mainly so that I have a back up in case of disk failure.
You can get Copy+ here

All the above is quite legal provided you are using the programmes for private personal use only. It would be illegal to do this commercially or for gain.0 -

i think my best bet is to buy a load of 1TB drives and store them with the films on them written on...
how many sky HD films will the 1TB hold ?If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0
