Assessors Report (PIP)

Options
Well received the assessors report from my assessment last Friday... the talking part she took basically word for word, except she placed minutes when I'd stated 10 yards (distance from my door to local shop).
But her report on the physical portion was an absolute joke. Said I could reach both arms to shoulder height... they both barely made it 1/4 of the way up before pain, neck movements were normal.. on any other day this may have been true but I had severe neck pain that day and could barely move my head to turn and look at my mum, who came with me, with my whole body moving, never mind look directly left or right. Said I had no signs of anxiety, even though I was dripping in swear and stuttering and stammering the whole way through to the point she gave me 3/4 tissues to wipe my face and my mum got me a glass of water which I had to sit down as I was shaking and it was sloshing about... said I stood up unaided for the majority of the physical ... she only made me stand to see me bend at the hip and get my hands as far down my legs as they would get... again barely 1/4 of the way to knees yet she said I could touch my knees, and I used the arm of chair and her table to raise myself for this while groaning with the effort.. my grip would have rivalled a frail 90 year olds yet that was normal too and a few other things, and she changed all answers on their opinion section to I could do everything unaided!! Haven't received an award (or lack-thereof going by the AR) but since receiving the AR I have called my local Advice Works who helped me fill out the form to get help in taking it to MR and, if necesarry, appeal..... weyhey, the joys of dealing with blooming ATOS!!

Good Luck with your MR !!
I was wondering whether where you live makes much difference to how you are treated in an assessment - or are they all as bad as each other ?

My assessor was obviously more than fair with me as I got enhanced for both daily living & mobility, which was a lovely surprise & a huge relief as I was unsure how my assessment went & had it in mind that I'd probably have to appeal. I'm in the SE of England.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Do you think the same as me - that if you live in the middle of a local authority housing estate in the middle of Manchester - your chances of being treated fairly are less than if you live in a quiet area in the south of England ?

mine was absolutely fair and professional with me, and I said so before I knew the outcome. Live in a former council house in a less affluent part of the north west

Totally disagree with this! Why would the area you live in have anything to do with a PIP outcome? Remember we mostly only hear of the bad stories. Those that have a decision in their favour don't have any questions to ask, therefore we don't hear about their story.

exactly this, and also short of them actively seeking out the, wholly irrelevant, information an assessor or decision maker wouldn't know whether I or anyone else was from the local council estate or the very affluent leafy road the other end of town, either way I'd be being assessed at the same centre by the same person.

Conspiracy theories really don't help anyone

All my assessments for PIP and ESA were all very fair too. Everything that was said in my reports was 100% the truth. Even down to what i was wearing each time.

I live in the west end of glasgow, very nice affluent area. My assessment (by salus which is nhs lanarkshire run) was a cluster!!!! from start to finish. I have wondered if perhaps the assessor was so rushed he mixed me up with someone else and then when the DWP were challenged they all turned inwards to prevent further scandal.

I've had a new claim in for 3 weeks now and no one has contacted me about another assessment. I have stated that I will not cope mentally with being faced with another assessment at the same centre and that I won't have a doctor cross my threshold. I thought they would send me to the other assessment centre in town which I believe is run by capita but they were in the news the other week because their building isn't wheelchair accessible - you couldn't make it up.

I live in a fairly poor area, and am in sheltered accommodation.

My PiP assessment (done at home) was a mixed bag.

In some areas the assessor (a nurse, working for ATOS) was very fair. This was mainly for the 'obvious' physical issues. ...She even stopped the physical tests at the end when it became apparent I was not going to be able to complete them.

The mental health issues were not so much glossed-over as almost completely ignored...or in some cases blatantly contradicted....She noted that I was rocking constantly, that I was in tears at some point , that I was constantly looking towards my mother for reassurance......and yet I apparently showed no signs of anxiety!...I speak with no intonation, am reluctant to answer questions, often simply repeat the question, need prompting from my Mum (all the assessor's noted observations) and yet scored zero on on the communication descriptor.

Looking at her report I was moved to wonder of she had reports of two assessments on her desk and got them muddled up!....She wrote down incorrect family details...referred to my being at school some 20 years after I had left...stated that I was often observed to be brushing hair out of my face (when my hair is actually cropped short)...of course there cannot have been 2 reports - as she filled the report in online whilst her...so why the errors????

Then there were the amazing leaps in logic....I have a shelf of books - therefore I can read - therefore I read regularly - therefore my concentration is perfect.....And some of the questions she asserts I answered in the mini-mental-state-exam were quite simply not asked (and I checked with Mum who was with me throughout).

And although she is a nurse, and admits to being not overly familiar with m condition, she was able in the space of the assessment to contradict the written report of a specialist in my condition who has seen me on multiple occasions!

However, when all was said and done, she awarded me the required points for the Higher Care and Standard Mobility awards - which was what I had assessed myself as deserving....(It WOULD be Higher for mobility too, if the government had not rewritten the rulebook on mental health and mobility)....so I just bit my tongue and gave thanks for a reasonable award.

Good luck with MR and if necessary appeal Kmoo.

To the posters who are satisfied with their outcome... please do make sure you still get a hold of a copy of the Assessment report from the DWP for your reference and potential future use.
