I saw an OT yesterday to obtain a blue badge - who (amongst other things) informed me that Carers allowance was increasing in amount (quite considerably) - I knew that the rules were possibly changing - but nothing about the amount increasing....
Does anyone know what he was on about ?

Not a clue. Haven't heard anything about that. I'd be surprised, seeing as the new government seems determined to decrease benefits, not increase them.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
MSE: many of the benefits of a helpful family, without disadvantages like having to compete for the tv remote

I have seen (Hansard) that the government has said that Carers Allowance will continue to be a Universal Benefit - not linked to UC
Also - several early day motions - requesting that CA is extended to allow pensioners to claim it - but apart from that, I can see nothing either
Anyone else heard anything on the grapevine ?
It is about time that carers were treated more fairly - I mean £1.77 per hour max ... come on !!0 -
it is definitely time that carers were treated more fairly ....
but it is also time that carers can't just claim because someone else receives a qualifying benefit.
i receive the SPD because i live alone.
if i didn't, then it would make sense for someone to claim carers allowance just because the money is available.
many people do this because there is nothing to stop thewm0 -

How would you prove they were not caring for that person? If you made it harder to claim and provide proof you were caring then you would get in the same position where disabled people complain they have to prove they are actually disabled.
I agree the money is pittance. If I was not married then it would cost at lot more for someone to be paid to provide the assistance I need.0 -
OK found it
The caring government want to get rid of carers allowance completely and tax PiP
sounds fair - doesn't it ?0 -
What i heard is that only people entitled to universal credit will get ca.0

Surely that's a link to somebody else's opinion rather than a source?0 -

Isn't the onus is on the claimant to prove that they fulfill the requirements of claiming a benefit - I don't know why CA should be any different.0
