Hi there,
first off i apoligize if i have put this in the wrong section.
i am in desperate need of help and advice.
i am newly registered blind and have been told i will have to wait at the very least 6 months to get a support worker to help me get all the benefits i deserve, as it stands i only receive the lower rate of DLA which is roughly £165 per month ,my wife earns roughly about £800 per month making that an annual pay of around £9600.
We have only been married a year, and i stopped geting income support because my wife works more than 24 hours a week. So as it stands i feel as if she is the only 1 bringing in any money.
I just wondered if there was some other kind of benefit i could get to boost my "income" because i am only getting my DLA this is around £41.00 a week to live off of.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

housing and council tax benefit.
if your wife could get an extra 6 hours a week work, you would qualify gor working tax credits0 -
If you are unable to work because of your visual impairment (or other health problems) you might be able to claim ESA (depending on your NI contributions and/or household income and savings).0
-
right now we cannot claim working tax benefit because my wife is only 22 and i only had 1 or 2 jobs andthen had to stop working because of my sight so i doubt very much that i would have contributed enough to apply for ESA. Also we have only just bought our first home within the past year aswell so i dont think we would get any housing benefit.0
-
its only council tax benefit then.
how did you get a mortgage with only £800 a month coming in?0 -
Well our mortgage repayments are only £225 per month over 40 years and it was only based on my wifes income, how do i find out about the council tax benefit ?0

You can get a 50% discount on your TV licence
https://www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled/television-licence-discount
Your local transport authority may have a discounted/free travel pass available for certain disabilities.
There is also a higher personal allowance for registered blind, but if you aren't earning its probably of no benefit to you.
