I am trying to book flights to either Cape Town or Port Elizabeth PE = final destination outbound) for mid January has to be in PE on 20th January from Edinburgh or Glasgow and returning from Cape Town to Edinburgh or Glasgow on or after 12 April.

When is the sweet spot for booking now or after Christmas?

Which routes?

Any codes.

No sweet spot for booking in my experience. We have always found the cheapest deals booking a long way out, preferably in a sale.

Consider how many changes you want to make and things like that.

We are going with Qatar via Doha this time, they tend to be good prices but seats on the narrow side. They do let you select seats though (take note, BA) and have a 30kg baggage allowance in economy. I think they fly to PE but not sure about the Scottish airports.

Other routes we have done include going into Europe (usually Germany is the cheapest) with Lufthansa, Air France or KLM etc but then to get to PE will probably involve either a change in CPT or JNB so end up being a bit more costly.
