Why is she leaving home at 16? There is an expectation that 16 year olds in education will be living at home unless the parents are paying for them to be at boarding school. I'm not sure why you think somebody else should be paying for something that is your responsibility (assuming said 16 year old is your daughter).

Well that expectation is wrong loads of girls are moving away that are going to different 6th forms school.

No ctc no way near covers her rent
To far away to live at home
It is the nearest 6th form for what she is doing

Then she'll need to change what she is doing.

What was she planning to do before this idea came up? Does her current school not offer A Levels?

I'm guessing that the OP's daughter is going to a college where either the subject is specialised and/or the teaching is of a higher standard than what is found locally. This is quite common for subjects such as Performing Arts. eg- LIPA a well regarded drama college for 18+ also has a sixth form, but no boarding facilities. The course is free, but unless you live near enough to commute then you need to fund accommodation and living costs yourself.

A very small percentage of 6th formers don't live at home, those that do move away are generally funded by their parents.

You're drip feeding us information here. Is this a private school, does your daughter have some outstanding talent that would make them pay for her?

I'll ask again, what was the plan for her before this idea came about?

I lived in at my sixth form as well, you were able to take out a student loan to cover expenses, but it did then mean you could only have three years of student loans to cover university rather than four.
  • If she is not going to be living at home then CB and CTC should be informed and payment might/will stop.

What happens if the bank of mum and dad can't afford the help out does the child have to miss out. By reading this I expect the original posters daughter may have a skill that only a few schools can accommodate. Maybe the original poster could share.
