Sorry if I am repeating any previous posts here, but as a Disabled footie fan, you can get free carers tickets to England games @ Wembley. Some other footie clubs also offer free or heavily discounted carers tickets,Due to the fact I live in Kent, I find this useful when Wolves play in London.Get in touch with the club you support. What you got to lose?
Another site I have found useful on may occasions, is www dot bbc dot co dot uk/ouch/messageboards/
Once you register there, you can find out all manner of things you may be entitled to, the discounts you can get at various places & all manner of things.
My top tip on saving? If you are booking an holiday, mention you are disabled & ask for the extra legroom seats near the front & the toilets. This way you get the extra legroom seats FREE.Works every time for me. You also normally get to the front of the queue, due to the lack of seats @ the departure desk.

Not all Disabled people can actually get a Disabled Railcard though which is a bit of a con, to get one as quoted by the Railcard Team in Newcastle, you must be either Blind or a Wheelchair user.

Personally i think thats pretty ridiculous, I hold a Disabled National Concessionary pass, but have been turned down 3 consecutive times by the disability railcard team despite sending as much photocopied proof as I can possibly give them, they still demand a letter from 'my social worker' well I'm sorry but just because i'm disabled doesnt mean i need nor have a social worker.

Perhaps MSE can look into this?

East Coast just refunded me £25.00 that I was forced to pay to sit in First Class for a London to Leeds journey because their onboard team were too lazy to move some chavs from disabled seating.
Hi don't know why you have been told that about the disabled railcard. I am a wheelchair user now however when I first got the DRC I only used one crutch, renewal I had two crutches and now I use a powerchair. If I remember correctly it was a tick box for e.g if you received DLA motability and I filled out mine online . sorry if ita a bit sketchy but hope it helps even a little take care ... K :)

If you receive either mobility component, or mid or higher rate care, then you can get a DRC.

It's true that many of the discounts only apply to the SE, but the principles are worth following. It helps if posters mention where they are, but the trick is to take proof of eligibility (copy of a DLA letter stating your entitlement, for example) and ask. If you're paying for a ticket at an attraction, ASK if there's a discount for disabled people, or if carers go in free.

Any discounts in your areas, SW and Scotland? Wales isn't as good as I'd like, but I can often get a discount just for asking - often by getting a pensioner's ticket if there isn't a specific disabled one. Smile when you do it!

One thing you can get in Wales is free entry to CADW sites (castles, etc). See http://www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=18

"3. If I have a disability do I get free entry to Cadw sites?
Yes. Your companion will also be eligible for free entry to Cadw sites"

Gosh, really????? I wonder if that's just Blackpool or elsewhere in Lancashire? I have to say it really riles me that because I've not learned to be "handy" now that my husband is ill and receiving DLA I have to get workmen in to do the smallest things at great cost!

My first priority would be to get the ground floor lavatory back in working order!!!! It would save him struggling to get up the stairs.

    :)

The terms and conditions on all of these vary a lot so I haven't written them all out, see the links for more information.

    For Residents of Cornwall

This is the page for a disabled persons bus pass for people resident in Cornwall: http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=4466
This is the page about disabled peoples parking permits for residents in Cornwall: http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=4109
I couldn't find a page but I know if you are in reciept of disbility benefits that you get concessionary fees at the Libraries in Cornwall and you qualify for an hour of free interenet access a day, not the usual 30 minutes- ask in the library, usually signs are up.
And the Cornwall Council run leisure centres and pools only offer a discount with a pass obtained via a doctors letter recommending excercise and then they only offer it against the pool and the gym, not other sports. The pass lasts 12 months.

For Residents of and Visitors to Cornwall

Flambards theme park has a discounted Disabled Person & Carer ticket for £25, rather than the usual £39 for 2 adults or £32 for a child and adult: http://www.flambards.co.uk/prices.html
The Eden Project admit a carer free and also have free powered wheelchairs for visitors to borrow to access the massive and hilly site: http://www.edenproject.com/come-and-visit/tickets-and-prices/index.php
The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth admit a carer free and have wheelchairs for visitors: http://www.national-aquarium.co.uk/ticket-prices
Paradise Park have a slightly lower disabled persons admission fee: http://www.paradisepark.org.uk/visitorinfo/prices.htm
Bodmin Jail also have a lower dsiabled persons admission fee: http://www.bodminjail.org.php5-2.dfw1-1.websitetestlink.com/visit/

I'll be back if I think of any more.

We visited St Ives, Cornwall a few years ago and couldn't work out how NOT to be guided to the way out car parks from which you had to catch a bus into town. We eventually gave up and parked where they obviously wanted us to. I started to hobble on my crutches to the waiting bus and although we were half way there the driver decided he wouldn't wait and drove off!! We decided St Ives didn't want us to visit and returned to the car to move on to somewhere that did want us. A shame because when I was in my early teens I absolutely loved St Ives and spent many happy summers there.

I have just discovered your website and am amazed at what I've learned already, thank you to all concerned. Now I have a question, I have been told by my local council, Kirklees in West Yorkshire, that the willow trees in my garden, which overhang the public highway, need lopping back. As a disabled pensioner I cannot do the job myself, I certainly can't afford tree surgeon prices, and the council won't help either. As anyone any suggestions as to whom I could contact for the job doing at a reasonable rate, or better still FREE! I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in anticipation.
