Hi, My dad is planning on taking my 3 yr old daughter to Ireland soon from the Uk , She does not have a passport and nothing has been booked yet as too my knowledge of airlines . Will she be okay with a Birth certificate ? and would I have to obtain the full one ? And does anyone know if my dad would be classed as her guardian even thow they do not share the same surname ? As I have browsed the internet to find out and cannot find the information I need , So any advice would be helpful ?Ebay Bag A Day Challenge 2012- :staradmin

Children accompanying adults (parent/guardian) on most airlines and by sea do not require any ID at all.
However Ryanair require a passport (or EU ID card) from all passengers, even day old babies.
A letter from you giving permission to travel should suffice to prove guardianship - I doubt if anyone will be concerned0 -
Could anyone give me an idea where she stands on this and if Ryan Air are just being stubborn with regards to both the passport issue and/or refund.
All Ryanair tickets are non-refundable and their ID policy clearly set out. Before you confirm your booking, you are clearly told on the website that passengers are responsible for presenting acceptable forms of ID.
Their plane, their rules. If you don't agree, you don't book.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Well they were wrong in relation to Ireland - but why would you expect them to have a clue anyway? It's not their specialised subject. Filling in the form may be, but it doesn't extend beyond that.
They may have been answering a different question - 3 year olds can no longer be included on their parent's passports, but must have their own.0 -
it tells you on aer lingus website that children under the age of 16 can travel to the republic without a passport as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

ryanair have different rules

always go by what the airline tells you, not anyone else'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -

I'm not sure if it depends on the airline you are flying with. We are going with Ryanair and they accept a valid photo driving licence (including provisional) as valid id
Hi Just to clarify Ryanair do NOt accept drivers license as ID it must be a passport or european identity card. Easyjet do accept them.0 -

I suppose you are both correct about the post office not knowing all the facts , even though the manager came out to tell me this information I thought they maybe correct .
My dad is looking to book a cheap flight at last minute due to his work hours and take my daughter .
So jillie would he class as a guardian ? by the way myself , my daughter and my dad all have different surnames ....so would this affect anything aswell ?
Im getting a bit worried now as i have the passport forms but not all the id they require to get dd one this week and my dad is planning on taking her in around 3/4 weeks from now . So it would be a great help if I knew she wouldnt really need one ?Ebay Bag A Day Challenge 2012- :staradmin
