The latest round of complaints made to the Advertising Standards Authority against property firms’ ads have once again ended only with ‘informal resolution’ of the cases.

One was against property investment company Aspen Woolf which advertised the Viewpoint apartments in Salford on its website with a claim ‘Stunning Waterfront Location’ when in fact the scheme was not on the waterfront.

“We contacted the advertiser who corrected the heading used on their webpage” says a spokeswoman for the ASA.

In a statement, Aspen Woolf said: “The landing page in question was just a simple mistake that was not picked up when proofing the page. The copy ‘Stunning Waterfront Location’ was part of the page template and not removed before the landing page went live. We removed the line as soon as it was brought to our attention as we never want to mislead valued clients.”

What more would you want them to do?

They've responded to the complaint and rectified the error.

Wouldn't it become pretty obvious when someone viewed the development that it wasn't on the waterfront?

Or do people buy property without viewing at all?

"Or do people buy property without viewing at all?"

Yes they do, especially if they live overseas and trust the "advisors" who introduce them to these schemes.

Mr Justice Coulson concluded that Mr Ames was “dishonest” but was poorly advised.

He said: “Mr Ames described himself as a visionary. In my view, that is not an apt description.

“I consider that he was more of a Walter Mitty-type figure who, through an unhappy mixture of dishonesty, naivety and incompetence, has caused irreparable loss to thousands of people."

“The only consultant that he employed who appeared to be involved in every important element of the Harlequin business model was Mr MacDonald of Wilkins Kennedy. This case centres on the extent (if at all) to which Mr MacDonald should have advised Mr Ames to take a different course.”

Mr Justice Coulson added that there remains a serious fraud investigation which is ongoing against Harlequin.

The Serious Fraud Office, together with Essex Police, is investigating the Harlequin Group of companies, includes the marketing, sale and construction of luxury off-plan property developments in the Caribbean and other locations.

The phrase "a fool and his money...." comes to mind.

You've still not answered what more you would expect Aspen Woolf to do.

I'm confused why the 'dishonest but poorly advised' Mr Ames was awarded a load of dosh.

The dosh has not been awarded to him personally but to his company, Harlequin Property. Moreover, the money will not be paid directly to Harlequin Property until compensation has been sorted for the investors. So effectively the court has ensured that the money from the accountants will be used to compensate investors and cannot be squirreled away by Ames.

He was awarded $11.6m damages against his accountants for what amounts to failing to stop him from running a property investment scam. Harlequin brought six charges against their accountants and five were thrown out, but the other claim, for overpaying contractors, was upheld. The initial damages were $25.7 million but this was reduced to $11.6m due to "contributory negligence" by Harlequin itself.

About £300m was invested in Harlequin so the $11.6m from the accountants is not going to go very far, unfortunately for the investors.

    Just seen this:

Is this property "investment" ever going to be completed? In 2012 as Fresh Start Living Ford Halls it was going to be before the end of the year. For the last 2 years it has been going to be completed by end of 2014. Mid 2015, 2016.

Then it was going to be the 2nd quarter of 2017 (attached) and now it is going to be 2018......?
