How much is each module worth to course as a whole?

So I guess this is not a Maths course ;)
We do need to know how much each course is weighted in the overall mark.

The second question (what is the lowest mark I can get away with and still average 60% overall is difficult - if (say) you score 100% in 4 of the remaining essays then you can get away with a low score in the 5th. But if you scored 100% in the 5th exam you could get away with lower scores in one or more of the others.

You might want to work out what score in the remaining exams will give you at least 60% for its module. If you achieve that then you will get slightly more then 60% overall (as module 2 has already scored 66.5%.

    Hi,

modules are all weighed equally. And then averaged out at the end to give me an overall score.

    thanks

If the modules are of equal worth, to the nearest percent, 65% and 55%

So to get a "current" average you could take each module as "worth" 100 points. So far you have scores for exams which were "worth"
    50
    100
    30
    50
    40
    25
    ---
    295 points
and you could then weight your results from each essay in terms of what you scored

    65.0%* 50=32.50
    66.5%*100=66.50
    66.0%* 30=19.80
    64.0%* 50=32.00
    70.0%* 40=28.00
    50.0%* 25=12.50

    .........191.30/295 = 64.8%

To work out what you need to score in Module 6s other exam...
You want at least 60% of the 100 points ie 60. You have already accumulated 12.5 points (50% or 25) so you need another 47.5 points. 75 points available so you need a mark of over 63.3333% in that essay.

The rest of the calculations are left as an exercise for the eade as they said in all the best text books in my day.

I've been insulted many times but being likened to the counters of beans? That's just too low.

I was taught to "always show your workings" that way even if you got the answer wrong you might get credit for the method

Oh don't fret, LX, you are far short of a being a wall-of-words merchant - no names, no pack-drill. :)

As we differ on the second question, I'll comment:

It seems to me that the OP really wants to know how he is doing and how much harder he needs to work to yield 60% - at least - of the total marks available. It's been easy to show that his current yield has been the 65% figure we both arrived at. As this has been achieved for just about one half of the total process - markwise - then the other half has to balance the 65% to achieve the 60% target - and that means 55%. Put another way "All other things being equal you're on course to achieve 70%, so don't ease off for the remainder of the modules".

Phew - what a lot of typing
