Buying a second hand luxury car
Options
I am thinking of buying a second hand luxury car. A BMW 730. I saw it on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142378083143
I don't know much about older cars, so I am unsure.
I am open to suggestions as to whether I should go for it or stay away.

It's a 14 year old BMW with 100k miles on the clock. It's a lot of car for the money, but when things go wrong they'll be expensive to replace.
It's also the size of a barge. Quite impractical for parking most places roadside, or in tight car park spaces (due to the size of the doors).
But a lovely looking car.
What attracts you to this, the badge, or do you realistically need that much room in a car? There could be suitable alternatives...0 -
Seems a genuine enough seller and car but an old turbo-diesel can be a money pit. If it were me, I'd buy a petrol Lexus instead.0

Seems the right answer to me.

Go see it and drive it.
As comfortable as your favourite armchair they are.0 -
Second hand Luxury cars are good from the point of view of up front costs but don't forget running costs will be in proportion to the original list price.
If you can afford the running costs then it might be worth a punt.0 -
I have driven it many times. It belongs to a friend of mine. The attraction is that I have always had small cars, and I may soon get a job where I could be travelling 30 to 70 miles a day, and it looks and feel comfortable.0

So you didn't just 'see it on ebay' then
I smell pork luncheon meat.0 -
That Lexus looks lovely. Shame it's a Cat D though.0

Shame it's not badged as a Toyota.
A colleague of mine didn't believe me his new Lexus was actually a Toyota until we lifted the bonnet and showed him all the little Toyota logos on the components.
They are not at all respected in Japan AFAIK - I'm told the Japanese feel it is a brand image thing simply to boost Toyota sales in the US.
A one-up-manship attempt that doesn't work for me.
I had a couple of Toyotas - nice cars - but they cannot pretend to be luxury cars - even with a Lexus badge stuck on.0 -
Those front window tints don't look legal to me.
Screams chav car which means run on a budget, no servicing and cheap nasty tyres.0
