    Hi, need some help please?

Recently applied to numerous payday loans for a refund. 2 have gotten back to me to say that they acted appropriately, but as a gesture of goodwill they will clear my remaining balances of £600 and £400 respectively. Should I accept this? Or by them offering the gesture are they accepting guilt?. Thanks.

By its very nature a “ gesture of goodwill” is just that.

They are not admitting liability, but are offering to clear your balances on a “without prejudice” basis.

That’s a grand you don’t have to find now at least.

    Some more good news!
My adjudicator got back to me this morning saying Sunny accept her findings and will refund me!
They’re now contacting the debt collection agency who bought the debt to find out how much.

I’m thrilled that not only will I get some money back in loans I should never have had given but also alll this bad info is getting removed from my credit report.

Now just to wait for the QuickQuid response but they’re taking the time with that one. But 2/3, I feel positive

So my adjudicator got back to me and the refund including 8% interest and 20% tax taken off is just short of £1700.
It’s sickening how much these cost me but I’m glad things get sorted.
Takes me up to £2500 from 2/3.

Keep going and fighting these companies if you truly believe they shouldn’t have sold you these awful loans. It’s worth it

    Hello all,

After reading this thread in December 2016 I thought I would update that I am now in the final stages of recovering the vast amount of money and interest I paid.

Summary - from 2010 to 2013 I was trapped in a constant cycle of payday loans, final escaping with help. I didn't default but it left me with large amounts of credit card debts, plenty of which I have just been cycling and transferring from card to card ever since

I have now received back amounts from 5 or the 6 companies I was borrowing from

    1. QuickQuid = over £10k
    2. Wonga = over 8k
    3. Lending Stream = over 4k
    4. Safeloans = £900
    5. Quid = £400

The last company I only had one loan from and the ombudsman service decided they hadn't acted inappropriately

    What did I do?

I requested Statement of Accounts from all companies, most responded quickly, Wonga ignored my request for over 2 months

Once received I complained individually to each company, Wonga again never responded. Quid offered to refund my interest paid straight away, PayDay Express said they had acted appropriately, QuickQuid, Lending Stream and Safeloans all said they had acted responsibly.

I didn't accept anything and complained to the FO for all companies.

Upon the FO contacting each company, Quid extended their offer of the interest I paid by adding 8% simple interest as well

QuickQuid and Safeloans offered a partial settlement, Lending Stream offered nothing with Wonga applying time bar exemptions when they finally responded

Wonga, QQ, Lending Stream and Safeloans all did not permit the FO to look at loans greater than 6 years old at the date I originally complained to them, which hi reluctantly agreed to as the amounts were small when compared to the very high amounts I paid to them during this time

The FO findings largely found that the first 3 loans I took from each company were ok, with everything after that being considered irresponsible and advised the companies to repay

I am now in a position where they have all agreed except Lending Stream, however an Ombudsman has now found in my favour with Lending Stream so I am expecting that within a month or so

Long post I know but as this thread helped so much I thought I would provide my experiences

All of the money I am getting back I am putting into clearing credit card debts and as such 2018 is now looking considerably brighter for me. This may even be the year I get debt free

Thanks everyone, and all the best on your quests for your money back

    Hello all,

I only occasionally dip into this thread now, having been following it since Woody was getting shouted at for starting in in late 2015!

A result of £23k reclaimed is brilliant testament to how right he was and your post is most helpful.

That's a fantastic result. I'm in the process of complaining about 4 payday loan providers. QQ has gone to the FOS after offering £16 refund for 13 loans & numerous rollovers whilst I had loans with all the others too. Wonga, PD Uk & PD Express all have 2 weeks to give me their response, but it's going to be a hard slog with some as they started in 2007.
Have you ended up with refunds on most loans or have you lost the first few with each provider?
    Thanks.

Sorry moneymoron1 - I can see that your original post states that you didn't tend to get the first 3. Can i also ask how much of the figures you've given can attributed to interest?
    Thanks.

I feel this could apply to me but I don't fully understand... I have got (and have had for many years) various payday loans. How can I go about claiming refunds on interest?

Quick question, I have now taken the first step on a long road and sent out my complaint emails, and subsequently had my first response. Lending Stream (medium amount of loans) have responded (within five days) offering to clear a very small loan of sub £100 owing and waive the interest on a larger account if I enter into a payment arrangement with them, I have had 7 loans in total with this lender, all back to back, so the interest would add up to a significant amount more than the offer, is there any way to go back to them or is it best to directly escalate to the FOS?

    Thanks all
