Cable staples for electrical cable

We have just moved into a house which is severely lacking in electrical sockets and the 1 double socket that does exist is invariably always in the worst possible location.
We will get an electrician in to put in some extra sockets in pretty much every room in due course.
In the interim we're using a couple of extension cables but it's not great having them trailing around the place.
I was going to buy some of the cable tacks and fix them along the skirting board to tidy them up. But when the Virgin installer installed the box upstairs he used a cable staple gun which was a lot quicker solution.
Is it possible to use these staples on electrical cables (approx 6-8mm?) and if so does anyone know which brand/type of staple & gun is best to get? Since we have this problem in every room except the kitchen it would be a LOT of the little plastic tacks to buy (and laboriously install!)
Thanks
PP

something like this will do the job and this one comes with a pack of round staples.

Please don't use a staple gun on a mains cable.
A VM RF cable is not as dangerous as a mains cable.
Please do it by hand.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
OK, will do. I'm now off to find industrial quantities of the little clips!0

Screwfix sell packs of cable clips, but make sure you get the right size and shape (some clips are for flat cables and some are for round).0

You're seriously over-thinking this...

pack of those, and an all purpouse hammer and you'll be done.0
