I corrected your reportMonarch Airlines has been granted a 24-hour extension to its ATOL licence, meaning its flights and package holidays will continue to operate as normal for [STRIKE]the time being[/STRIKE] 24 hours..."By quadrupling fares in a hypercompetitive market, the Luton-based airline is effectively stopping selling tickets, which would limit its exposure in the event of a failure."
....
"If the licence is removed, Monarch could technically continue to trade; most of its business is flight-only, which does not need an ATOL.
But it would indicate that the aviation regulator is unconvinced about the airline’s financial health, making many travellers reluctant to book.
Revenue would fall and suppliers could start to demand cash in advance, making it impractical for Monarch to continue to fly."
Or is MSE going to cynically suggest the rise in cost to at least £100 is to ensure those paying by credit card are covered by S75 should the worst happen?
Elsewhere:A CAA spokesman said: 'We can confirm Atol protection will remain available for eligible holiday bookings made with Monarch on Sunday. The CAA will provide a daily update with regard to the protection that is available.'0 -
Just tried to do a dummy booking on Monarch's website and no flights are available beyond the end of October.
ETA Just tried again and flights are available but all at a flat rate of £162.0 -
Bit worried about this as the Mrs is meant to be flying to Turkey on Friday :-o0

I'm equally as worried as I've booked a package holiday with them for my honeymoon with them for 10 days in Cyprus leaving 15 October. Monarch are saying nothing when I ask them if its still happening...0

Yep - Manchester to Alicante is showing all seats £132 out, £114 back. I was shopping around a few days ago and they varied in price from £35 to £150ish.0

Update 00.10 Mon 2 Oct: The Sunday evening deadline passed with no further update from the CAA or Monarch. We'll update this story first thing in the morning.
Whilst MSE staff are getting their zzz's, here is the latest.
Monarch Airlines have fallen into administration early this morning.
This effectively marks the collapse of the business.
There are no outgoing Monarch flights from the UK and the advice for those already booked on such flights is to not travel to the airport.
For those booked onto return Monarch flights to the UK, the government has asked the CAA to charter aircraft to bring you back to the UK.Monarch Airlines has ceased trading and all of its future bookings have been cancelled, the Civil Aviation Authority has said.
Around 110,000 customers are currently overseas and the government has asked the CAA to charter aircraft to bring them back to the UK.
Monarch is the UK's fifth biggest airline and the country's largest ever to go into administration.
Customers in the UK due to fly have been told not to go to the airport.
Edit: Any Monarch pilots reading? Michael O'Leary is said to be interested in hearing from you0 -
