i've been going on about the sneaky 12 month line rental contract with 18 month internet contract bit for a while now.
i advise anyone with sense to steer clear of such deals as you end up getting stung on higher bills and stuck as you now have staggered contracts.0 -
I am now going to sue Ford. I bought a car last month, they didn't tell me I had to put petrol in it, insure it and pay for servicing. All they showed was a bargain headline price.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.

The fiddle of monthly line rental is one perpetrated by the biggest con-merchant of all; BT.
They have ripped GB off for decades. If we had a government that actually gave a toss for our citizens, they would make the sp's justify this insidious charge.
If one party can change or get out of a contract, then both parties should be able to.
That's it, rant over.0 -

This again.
You want broadband over a phone line? You need to rent a phone line then. Doesn't matter if you use it for voice calls or not, you aren't paying for the ability to make calls, you are paying to rent the line.
The wholesale cost of line rental (about £9/month) is for network maintenance and is imposed on BT by OFCOM.
If you really object to paying line rental to rent a copper pair to your house that connects to a green box and ultimately to a BT telephone exchange then go to an alternative teleco and pay for a private circuit for data only outwith the BT network to be installed to your house. They start from about £350/month for a 10Mb/s data line last time I looked (three year contract, no install fees - probably cheaper monthly if you pay for the backhaul to the PoP to be installed up front).Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
