    It can't be particularly problematical if the pointed-to article recommends that people run McAfee (among others) to check out the possible danger!

    This isn't the Daily Mail; please don't panic...

    I thought everybody knew not to open dodgy email attachments.

    I will say the hysteria is spreading, I got asked at work if they would be ok if there computer is switched off.

    Windows defender is free on Windows 8 (version from MS for older windows versions as well) - this should be more than fine for detecting any viruses.

    Once they've done this, they can then ... send emails in your name.
    That has always been possible, no access to my computer required, just guessing my name.
